Come on guys, its been like 3 weeks already. When are you going to get a proper certificate issued for the website? I have manually added the certificate into a couple of my browsers, but between 3 different PCs, 2 laptops, an iphone and a host of web browsers its a pain in the butt to keep adding them.

Dodgy IT, do your job :P

GoDaddy do certificates for like $5 a year.

If your really stuck im happy to help get it sorted.

Cheers, Errol.

How do you do this in IE8?

It is very annoying having the popup info bar all the time.

Use normal http:// instead of https://

It happens with normal http:// aswell, but only on the forum index.

If you claimed to know what you're doing, you'd know NOT to have the HTTPS in front of the address bar. Obviously this site doesn't require SSL, why would you want to use it?

Every 'generic' hosted site has a default SSL built in, but its only signed by the hosting company, hence you will get that message regardless. Put HTTPS in front of any generic forum or site you find and you will see it works, but it's not signed.

This isn't LS1's fault, its yours, remove the HTTPS replace with HTTP and all of the wonders of LS1 will be yours without errors....

Look at the address bar of your browser. If it says https:// just delete the "s".
https:// just serves up an encrypted version of the page, and there is really no need for this outside of secure transfer sites like netbanking or online purchases.

Edit: Just enabled the information bar and got the message you have. As you say it only appears once on the forum index, so isn't really a major concern.

Thats not an SSL/HTTPS issue, IE is warning you there are controls/items on the page that might cause an issue. This is standard IE crap. Just click it and accept the controls, could be flash/activeX/Java...

Just did a test and it appears the only thing that doesn't load until you accept the error is the GIF file at the bottom of the index page for the forum statistics. I think everyone is safe from this scary beast http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/images/misc/stats.gif
Those using stupid IE should be seeing an X at the end of that sentence ^^ until they accept the error.

It clearly says security certificate in the error.

I'm not concerned about the gif, just the bloody annoying popup (which is far more annoying in other browsers). Can you get rid of the gif so we don't have to see this warning?

Its much easier to use another browser, the issue isn't the one GIF, it could be many, IE just plain sucks ass, ask any developer and they'd agree.

It gives you stupid warnings like the one you recieve, and it doesn't even mean what it says...

Ok dude, you are annoying me now.

Changing browsers is not a 'solution', it is a work around. I also work in I.T., so I have a fair idea of whats going on. We are a Microsoft shop, so using another browser is hardly a solution for me. How about we focus on getting the problem resolved instead of discussing all the different ways of making the problem less visible?

EDIT: Looks like XLR8 V8 has just fixed it up, the gif is showing without a warning now!

Just testing in the latest:

Firefox - No warning/error
Chrome - No warning/error
Safari - No warning/error
IE 8 - Warning

Best thing to do is if you're running a non secure site (like this one), make sure none of your links are secured, so the GIF in question could have been pointing out to a HTTPS site, or the GIF itself was probably stored in a HTTPS folder/directory, without a proper certificate. Common with ads.

IE will look at that certificate and if it isn't signed, will not load it until you accept it. IE is the only one to my knowledge that does it this way around.

The other more common way is the site is actually secure, so https above, but some content on the page isn't. So once again, you might have a GIF that's pointing to a NON secure site, with HTTP. This is caught by all browsers, and will show as either a broken lock down the bottom, or a red address bar (chrome).

The two are similar but different.

Nope. Unless Sidey is online right now and playing around, then nothing has changed on our end. We Mods have no access to any forum setup functions.

Yeah, looks like I still had a window open in the background that kept it happy, the warning is showing again for me.

I cannot find any https hyperlinks etc. in the Portal nor the Forum root page source. Normal use of the forum does not require use of the SSL server that is only for admin and mod functions. There are a few rewrite rules in the web server config so if you can actually tell me the URL of the object causing the warning that would help MUCH MUCH more than the certificate info.

It happens pretty much all the time with IE and seeing you have rotating ads, it can't be just the one image, try disabling gifs all together and test?

SirNemesis

It is definately the GIF that XLR8 V8 put up earlier, as this page is also showing the security certificate warning now.

Ok, found it :D It was a rewrite rule which was a bit too general. I have changed the rule to be more specific and it should not happen any more with this image :D

Where is this image on the page btw?? I cannot see it and have never seen it :)

Yeah I just found it :) It would have only been throwing an error on the forum index page .. and the page does not reload automatically only the banners do .. so would only show up on a manual reload or actual navigation to the forum index :)
