Does anyone have this clutch in a VE? How is it? Can it take abuse like "Z" grip and hows the pedal feel? Cheers.

No one huh? Well looks like I'm getting "Z" grip, spoke to Peter today, great bloke, very helpful. Had no idea "Z" was ceramic

I'd imagine a read of the several threads down the bottom of this blue screen might give you some previously supplied answers about Xtreme clutches...

if you are happy to tolerate the shudder the Z grip is the way to go.

I hated the shudder of my Z Grip.
After the Z grip I had an Xtreme clutch which was half ceramic and half organic. It was very smooth and never slipped but I was always unsure if it would keep taking the same level of abuse the Z grip did.
End result I would probably look for a third option next time for a new clutch.

Can't comment on the extreme but in my VE the NPC drives like a stocky(pedal abit heavier) and handles 360rwkw's with no shudder/squeal:goodjob:

Thanks for feedback fellas!! I do have a few more questions tho :)
Peter said that shudder disappears after the clutch is run in (500-1000km) ??
Could anyone be more specific about shuddering as in where it occurs and how and where it's noticeable? I'm just convinced with extreme as I've found a few posts and treads saying how it slipped not long after it was installed whereas "Z" grip can be really punished and rebuild as well..
How tough is NPC? Which NPC clutch do you have BLACKVE? I think that twin plate cushioned button sounds good? How much are they?
Oh and how much abuse can they take as I need something that I can abuse and will not complain? I've got 320rwkw.

I have an extreme in my blown cammed VT and it is a good bit of gear. Although it has not been to WSID since installation, can't comment on that part of it's performance. However it has seen a fair flogging at other events and has not shown any sign of slip etc.

Which Xtreme do you have? Single, twin etc?

i just emailed NPC and they recommened a single coppermix clutch they have developed for the FAT VE.
No drag strip in SA so can't comment on abuse etc but handling the power and drives nice which is what i wanted:goodjob: I think it was 1700 with remote bleeder and braided lines and new slave cylinder.
I have a VY with 3.9 gears and 232/234 cam etc and still holding the stock clutch(50000km's) so maybe i drive like a pussy, some drivers are brutal on clutchs

Single, the one they supply specific (apparently), for LS1 cars up to 400rwkw if I remember correctly. I got it through my work and was significantly cheaper than a tex etc so thought I would give it a go.

Mine shuddered from day one and continued forever (dont know about this run in period). It was a pain as well as the sweaking noise. It shudders when you release the clutch pedal. The severity of the shudder was dependent on the rpm. The lower the rpm the more severe the shudder. Some people recommended certain remedies such as hard third gear launches to "clean" the plate. I suggest you test drive a car with the Z grip before committing to buy one. They are tough clutches but not street friendly.

That's the part that i'm worried about up to 400 rwkw. I do give it a hard time and I know when the new clutch goes in it is gonna cop the trashing from hell. Is the shudder really that bad in the TEX? What makes it shudder?

Have you still got it or it's been replaced with something else?
Peter said that this is some revised edition so the pedal feel is only 8% heavier then stock as well??

I ended up selling the car (not because of the clutch:)). I would have kept the Z grip regardless. I had the torque with the twin turbos and the clutch handled it well. At the end of the day I saw it as a trade off - super strong clutch but at a cost.

What makes them shudder has alot to do with driving technique. You need revs on board to take off. Not to much 1500 is fine for a normal take off.

Is that due to them being ceramic? Is that the reason they shudder?

Its one of a few factors. It really isn't that bad. If you try to drive it like a stock clutch it will shudder of course. Drive it appropriately and they are fine. I've had mine for 4 years with not one problem as a daily driver.

At $1320 I reckon it's a very good value.
I spoke to Doug from NPC clutches and he recommended a single plate organic coppermix rated to 430-480 rwkw. He said it will last longer then a ceramic although it's not recommended running slicks at the strip..
My car is lumpy so it needs fewer more revs when taking off anyway so I think I'll be ok with "Z" and it's rebuildable too. My only concern is what Doug said is that ceramic clutch wears into flywheel coz it's such a tough material, but on the other hand I'm still not convinced with coppermix and at $1665 I don't think is as good value as "Z"..

cheers mate :goodjob: Spoke to Doug from NPC, I think I'll get their orgnic coppermix single plate rated at 430-480 rwkw. Apparently it will last longer then ceramic too, much friendlier in traffic and you can take it to the track or strip as well :)

Doug quoted me $1665 for clutch with flywheel, braided line and slave cylinder. Not sure about remote bleeder tho, ill have to find out.
Do you know if they are single or dual mass flywheel? Is yours organic coppermix too?
