yeah dont think i would bother with one only real advantage would be if someone was wanting to do very frequent filter change and inspections.

coz a few bucks for genuine oil filter every 5000K is to much?

nah i dont think so i would probably use one if i was doing regular track days/ drag runs for ease of monitoring oil contaminents, could be good used as a screen type filter for someone running remote filters no advantage for some one with a stock car going down the street.

If you're that keen on spending money on upgrading the oiling system then you're better off relocating the filter and fitting the biggest that fits in your engine bay along with a oil cooler for good measure. As for checking the condition of your engine, it's as easy as cutting open the regular filter before you throw it away.

Lol i reakon i could fit a pretty big oil filter in the engine bay might be a bit of overkill mate

If you're going all out with the motor then it shouldn't be considered overkill. Simply put, a bigger filter gives you better filtration.

I'm using a slightly longer version of the standard ecotec V6 filter but the difference is that it's made by K&N. The bypass in the standard (acdelco, ryco, etc) filters cut in at approx' 3500rpm whereas the K&N doesn't stop filtering until 5000-5500rpm.

My build is a turbo V6 aimed at the pointy end of the field. When I open the motor up for its rebuild I will be tackling all of the documented setbacks in the factory oiling system which are notorious for destroying these engines. Long story short, running a bigger/better filter is added insurance.

Show cars maybe, but i think it would be hard to get that reusable filter as clean as the first time you put in in, cause micron measurements are so small.

Yeah i didnt realise the standard oil filters flowed so little oil, oil bypassing at 3500 rpm is definately a bad thing. Im guessing the the ls1 filter would be bypassing at a similar range.
