A switch to front-drive would automatically wipe a quarter of the Commodore's sales tally -- that's roughly how many V8 rear drive luxury or sports sedans make up its overall volume.
Another argument against a switch to front-drive: the Toyota Aurion V6 front-drive sedan has failed to get near Commodore or Falcon sales despite Toyota's marketing power and the fact that the Aurion has a more refined and efficient engine, and accelerates more quickly.
One rear-drive option under consideration was to downsize the Commodore by using a platform that is going to underpin a new Cadillac small sedan -- but this would be more costly to build and the car would be less space efficient than many medium-sized four-cylinder sedans.
The Carsales Network understands the most likely scenario is that, beyond 2017 -- when the next generation Commodore is due -- Holden will continue with a modified version of its existing Commodore architecture, but will develop an all-new body and engines
Yes there were some interesting comments in that article. It does look good for remaining RWD

What will constitute the next generation in 2017? A new platform? Zeta until then?

Article explains it will probably keep the current platform just change the looks and engine line up some more.. guess we wont know how outdated the platform is for a couple years yet?

I call BS on Toyota. NO WAY a 200kw fwd Aurion would out accelerate a 270kw RWD SS let alone a 317kw HSV.:vpo:

it's the same scare-tactics story that plagues the falcon when there's no news to fill the journalists day.

I've gone head to head with the Aurion in my HO 6 and got out ahead and stayed there, same with the FG na 6. All autos.
I am a big believer that if Toyota came out in RWD, they would seriously compete with commodore. I lactually liked the camry but FWD put me right off instantly.

There has been a few media reports regarding the future of the Commodore.
One says that an all new model will be released in 2015 another said 2017 and another 2018.
It looks like they really have no idea.
Does anybody on here have any better info?
