In the process of installing a genuine reverse camera kit to my 07 ssv and the instructions ask if the car has "RSE" or not. Any idea what this acronym means ??
Guessed it on the first install and it hasn't worked.

Ok changed the wiring to suit no "RSE" fitted it up and failed to work. GIVEN UP NOW !!

Anyone know a good dealer service department that has a smart auto lecki that can think outside the square to get this camera to work as per factory specs. (Perth)

have you turned on rear aux on the head unit? if not try that

Has nothing to do with auxillary, should operate when reverse is selected.

Wonky

Not necessarily - depends how it's wired up. Mine is wired up to display to the screen whenever I press AUX and has nothing to do with whether reverse is selected - a deliberate choice on my behalf. That said, assuming you are installing to factory instructions it is probably wired into reverse.

That's right the attempt is as per factory wiring, not after market. It is through the "A" and "B" conector on the right side of the display unit not aux port.

I've got the same problem. I bought one off Ebay that is supposedly a genuine HSV unit.

I tried to fit it to a series 1 2010 ute and obviously it doesn't have RSE. I have tripled checked my wiring connections but it just doesn't work. I have also checked that the switch box is getting power and that is fine. One thing I have found though is that the instructions say when you reconnect the power the radio does a self check 3 times and the speaks make 3 poping sounds, well mine didn't do anything, it just booted up as per normal. I don't know where to go to from here.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, i installed mine for the second time today as i couldn't get it working the first time due to me using a piggy back fuse on another 12volt source. Anyway, mine did the self check speakers popped 3 times thing then all was good, working like a charm, my front and rear sensors still work, the only thing i thought was a bit weird was that the radio cuts out when i select reverse and i get the pic out the back instead, i presume you cannot have the radio/cd on when the camera is on the screen or maybe a safety measure?

Did you check what software version your radio is? mine was a version 5 so followed the non version 9 instructions. Just a thought!
youtube of my install YouTube - Ve rear camera

I followed the Version 9 non RSE guide. My software is:

Software version info 1
AHU MCU version: 9.10
AHU External Memory Version 9.11
Panel MCU Version 9.02
Software version info 2
Panel EEPROM version 9.02
Display board MCU Version 9.06
Software version info 3
DCmachanism version 63.08.02

The fact that my radio didn't pop makes me that that the car doesn't know it is connected. If anyone has any other clues please let me know.

Thanks

Mine also isn't working but when i pushed the AUX button the camera image was displayed which makes me think mines wired up as wonky mentioned, to auxillery. It just won't turn on in reverse but press aux and it comes on regardless of what else you're doing. Also, my unit also didn't go through any start up or speaker pops, very strange and frustrating. Any ideas cause i'm all out, ready to send it back.:bawl:

I tried the AUX button and it didn't do anything. I also went in to the menu and turned AUX on but still nothing. I can't see how it picks up the reverse signal when you've not got a car which shows the PDC sensors on the screen.

I don't think these units are designed to work with base model big screen VEs.

Yeah not sure, but some don't seem to have any trouble which is strange.

I think you may be right they only work with VE models with colour large screens and reverse senors such as Calais and ssv's

Doesn't explain why mine doesn't work though. Also my brothers is an ssv wagon and it's also a no go.

i think maybe the Ebay seller may have bought a bulk lot from grays online auction and is making good dollars from them, maybe Holden were selling them off because they had problems?

Guys I bought one of these from Grays and am having trouble too. (I think its my install, not the product!). Mine clicked softly 3 times and the CD shuffled a bit when it turned back on, but didnt pop from the speakers.

We might be able to help one another out. 3 questions:

1. With the power, did you plug it straight into the white power thingo between the video and audio connection boxes (mine had what looked like a spare plug facing the rear of the car, it was hard to get in?)

2. Also in Step 14 in instructions "remove terminated wires from location 6 and 15 (on the video port)". Mine didnt have any wires in there. Did yours? (5 and 14 had ones in there, but I didnt take these out)

3. Have you guys got Sat Nav?

14-02-2011, 04:36 PM
i havent got sat nav and m,ine is working correctly now
I took the power from a plug that is used if you install an ashtray bottom left of the radio as you look from the drivers footwell.
I did have pins in 6 and 15 as i have rear dvd maybe that is the difference? sorry i can't be more help, maybe ring Holden and ask what model Commodore are these exactly for as i seem to be the only one to get it to work this far. Mine is a 2007 Calais V 6 cyl.

Yeah mine has rear DVD as well, but no pins in 6 & 15......interesting.
Mine is a version 9, so I followed version 9 RSE destructions.

Just out of intrest, do you recall if yours have two pins right next to these occupied?

Contacted the seller yesterday and he is refunding both kits, mine and my brothers. Very disappointing result but the seller is being good about the whole thing which is a plus. It just seems that it's a real hit and miss with these kits. Oh well, anyone know of any other kits that are going to work with my calais? I may be interested!:eyes:

Whoops, just tried my satnav for the first time since install, and it only has black and blue colours...... not sure how I managed that.

Might have to ask my friendly Holden service mob to sort it out for me.
Unless anyone has any ideas? Or the Video pin assignment/service manual?

Place your car in different back ground light - outside and your sat nav display will change back to full daylight veiw

thanks for the suggestion but its not just dimmed, but fully dark blue in colour - whole screen. I've had it inside and out since then, same near un-readable blue colour. Like somone pulled out the colour cable by mistake.....

If I had the video pin assignments I could probably work it out?

Today, four days after unsucessfull install, I started the car and ALL BY ITSELF, it went through the speaker pop thing (takes at least 10 seconds between each pop).

Then I put it into Reverse, and hey presto I had the text "Please take care when reversing" and the guidence graphics. Awesome

But no camera picture......
So I still haven't worked it out, but MUCH closer today.

Mate check out the bidders on mine and your sellers auctions from the past history - coincidence - not likely !! similar bidders on them and other sellers auctions for same region. Theres more but I believe a police investigation is in progress.

By the way I never got my money back (YET)

TOO ALL that are having install issues with these cameras. I have stumbled on a solution. Find yourself a blue tooth connected phone and set it up in your car, once that is sorted and you have the camera installed as per instruction, turn your ignition on and wa-lar it works. If you turn your phone off the camera stops working.

NBTBRV8
24-02-2011, 07:45 PM
You shouldn't have to do that, it should display without a bluetooth phone. Mine was paired and it still didn't work. I took it to a installation company and they played with it for an hour with a final diagnosis that it was faulty. I am now disputing the seller through Paypal.

Mate seller is a :flipoff::vpo: found a semi solution to cut my losses and maybe you guys should do the same. Police investigation report that these sellers are known and it will be a civil case - leave that up to your imagination.

Not the case in my situation, turned my bluetooth paired phone off and the camera still works perfectly, maybe i just got lucky?

Even though i am very happy with mine i don't get "Please take care when reversing" and the guidence graphics, maybe different software?

After a long drawn out process Paypal concluded their investigation today in my favor for a full refund. It is good to get my money back, but alas I still don't have a rear camera. Looking at the sellers feedback another camera buyer left negative feedback as he never got his camera and had to get Paypal involved too.

I would suggest that people be wary of these units after reading this thread.
