A mate has a 09 VE SS A6 that he got from pickles auctions (cop car).. Its done 60,000kms and today he has lost drive gear. If he puts it in drive it does not go.. Does this mean its shat itself and needs a rebuild?
It is under warranty just wondering what the chances are of getting them to fix it, it still has 2 years warranty.
Shit the police must drive em rough.

Sounds like the gearbox has just screamed enough. Even with it being an ex cop car it is still under factory warranty fixed plenty of cop cars and ex cop cars under warranty. Even had a VY cop car with a tailshaft that had been sheared off an obvious flat drop into drive, torqued the shaft up and twisted it till it said no more. Warranty still stands.

If it really is electrical that is where they might step back a little due to all the mess of wiring the cops have for their lights. I wouldn't think it to be electrical unless it has something to do with the module controlling the gearbox which is internal in those gearboxes. Probably find he will get a replacement box under warranty

If its mechanical, push like hell for a new box as I know how they're driven. I might have even contributed to the demise of a few myself. ;)

I wouldn't find this hard to believe :)
