Hi guys,
I have been searching the forums high and LOW for a answer to my question.
i have a Wh Caprice and want a very DEEP yet loud note.. 1 3/4 4>1 pacies, 100cpi cats, and a dual 3" cat-back is on the cards along with other bolt on mods..
-3.9's
-stally
-OTR+Maffless
-ported manifold/throttle body
-Large transcooler
Is what i am looking at..
I am wondering if anyone has, OR has heard this sort of cat-back setup on a LS1..
-Out of the cats into a Magnaflow OR Jun-bl X-pipe then into 2 centre hot dog muffler/resinators 4.5-Inch round 14-Inch long single in-single out.. This setup will be SIMILAR to the centre setup of the famous KPM VE systems.. After the 2 centre hot dog mufflers/resinators, it will be twin all the way to the rear where a DI-FILIPPO twin in-twin out muffler(Exactly the same as the mufflers used in the Di-Filippo Vt-Vz LS1 systems) will be fitted then out the back with some nice stainless tips.. This will cat-back will be all Twin 3" Stainless Steel piping and mufflers.
has anyone heard, OR have a custom system done like this before??
Cheers,
James.

Have you heard a xforce twin 3'' mild steel system? I went to that from a diffillipo twin 3'' and actually love the sound of the xforce. Its loudish, no drone, deep and tough at idle.

no i haven't heard a X-Force or Di-Filippo for that matter!! But i hear that X-Force is a tad raspy not deep or have a real TUFF idle!

I reckon you heard right. I ended up changing the mufflers in my X-Force
twin 3 to Berkley chambered mufflers, now has a much nicer note. I have
also had the x-pipe cut out and replaced with the Sureflo item. Expensive
way to get the right note, but I am happy now.

Well mate, dunno who told you that but ive had a diffillipo twin 3'' and didnt find it all as deep as everyone rants about, infact was too quiet for my liking. Id go as far to say the xforce sounds all as tough bit purely my opinion. Everyone likes there own sound

Agree about the Difillipo, way over rated. I did find the x-force raspy though, and that is on a H/C car. If the KPM for the earlier models sounds as good as those on the VE series then spend the coin and go down that path. Otherwise get the cheaper x-force and chop and change it until you are happy lol.

Yeah, im happy to spend 3-4k on the exhaust no worries as long im happy with the note, i guess alot of people would be the same!!
KPM, said they do a system for vt-vz LS1's..
X-pipe into 2 centre hotdog/mufflers, then merge into single 3" into a single in-twin out muffler, which come out as twin 2.5"..
But im under the impression single 3" is equvilent to twin 2.25"..?
Also, i don't know of anyone getting a system from KPM(exhaust technology) on there LS1's, so its about $1300 roughly to get the system done! all you can do is go PURELY off what the mark says! lol.. and as every knows. Everyones has a personal taste when it comes to exhaust note!!

Yes, his 3 inch jobby. Was not a cheap exercise that one lol. I actually
had the x-force x-pipe cut out and replaced with twin 3 inch pipe (so a true
twin system), sounded absolutely horrible :spew: That is when I purchased
the Sureflo x-pipe and had it installed.

I would be very wary of purchasing an exhaust purely on what someone
says, like you say tastes differ. I also looked at KPM prior to going from
my Sureflo 3.5 single to the x-force twin 3, but their is not much out
there for the VT-VZ platfrom from KPM, nothing that I could find anyway.

haha.. fair enough!! Sounds like you've done some different things in your cat-back!!
the sureflo full merge x-pipe is about $130 in stainless i believe.. But the TRUE x-pipe from kpm is around, $220.. lol..
i see your in SA, BLACK 346.. who does or done your exhaust work when chopping and changing your cat-back etc?

How much did the xforce note change with a cam?

I have no idea mate, I had a Sureflo 3.5 single prior to the cam. They
twin 3 inch with the cam, and then had the heads done. Heads changed
the note a fair bit.

Exhaust Plus at Stepney, he has done really good work on my car and the wifes Rex. Wont go anywhere else now.

All the x-force piping with Berklee 3inch in/out chambered mufflers, Sureflo patented 3inch merge, x-force rear resonator and twin 3 inch polished stainless custom tips from the resi back. In front of that I have 1 3/4 Ceramic Coated Pacey 4-1's and Venom 100cpsi Cats.

Sounds the part..
Did the berklee's really give it a deeper/tuffer note?
i was abit hesitent with the venom cats(im guessing you got them off ebay).. but are you happy with them?
did exhaust plus stepney do your pacies aswell? what sort of money were they?
cheers.

Yes, the Berklee's were the biggest change I have seen in my exhaust, much deeper and less bark.
The Venon cats have given me no problem in over a year, they are also Australian made I believe.
I bought the paceys off a forum member, they replaced the HM Tri-y's that I had on the car when it was bolt on.

I've heard Berklee's make a nice muffler..
What did they set you back? and were they mild or stainless?

They were about $90 each, so pretty cheap, and I think they are
galvanised steel?

Okay Okay..
I'm just under the impression if i put proper centre mufflers and a rear muffler it won't be loud?

Define loud. A bolt on car compared to one with a decent stick will not be loud in comparison. I start my car in the shed and it shakes the windows all through the house, didn't do that pre cam. A cam will make your car very loud trust me. Also, dont get loud and good mixed up, I have heard a few loud LSX cars that sound shite, and some not so loud that sound very nice :)

Fair enough..
I guess i want it to be the loudest it can be with having a tuff deep note..
Knowing what you doing after chopping and changing cat-backs, if you had you way again.. what would you do in regards to the cat-back setup?

Considering that I have not heard another combo that I like better than
my current setup, I would go straight for what I have now, would just
skip all the other exhausts that I have had prior to this setup.
