Hi guys I have bought a new diff centre for my ve wagon just wondering if anyone can recomend anywhere in Adelaide to have the centres swapped over.
Like to hear from people who have had it done, where and how much it cost. Even if you are not in Adelaide but have swapped your diff over would like to know how much you payed. FRom what ive read it takes about 2 hours is this right ?

The diff swap should take bout 1 1/2 to 2 hours for a qualified person to do, most of the labour(@ $100 an hour depending on the workshop) is actually removing the rear end to get to the diff then putting everything back together.

Would that include the ECU recal if ratio changed?

Nope...all thats needed is the speedo recal(selecting the new diff ratio in the ecu) which can be done by holden.

Any decent workshop should be able to do it easily. Initially I was told it was a bit harder on VE than previous models due to different rear suspension but have since read in threads on here from guys who've done it themselves that it's actually easier and should take about an hour.
Worthwhile depending on mileage changing the diff oil too. If the car has had a tune the tuner can change it in about 15 secs on the laptop, otherwise Holden can do it on Tech 2 providing you speak to someone who knows how to actually use it!! Should cost you very little (free?) if you use your regular dealer.

I went from 3.45 to 3.7's did it myself not that hard to do. You don't need to change the speedo as it has wheel sensors so i've been told. I didn't have to change it, it was 2km/h fast before the change and after the change still 2km/h fast (checked with gps). BTW mines a manual.
Cheers.

My mate did one on a ute. He did it at home on the car stands. The exhaust from cat back (or in front of diff - depending in your exhaust joins) needs to come off. It took him about 3-4hrs doing it himself on the ground and he is a qualified mechanic for Holden. I dare say that anyone that tells you its a 1 hour job would be either full of it or would be assuming several people working on it.

Good point you make Keepup. I think mine took around the hour with one person working full time on it and a second person as required for lifting off the catback etc.. They are a fully equipped workshop and have a tall jack for lowering the diff and jacking the new one back up so no heavy lifting/holding required. Without that I imagine it would be a prick of a job!
