View Full Version : Removing polish from rear parking sensors on VE

Gave the car a polish on the weekend. I put some tape over the rear parking sensors but managed to get some polish between the sensor and rear bar. I'm worried that if I just try to dig it out i'll scratch the paint off.
I took the rear bar off thinking I could remove the sensors, clean them, then re-install. Unfortunately I discovered the sensors plug into a holder which is attached to the rear bar and the polish is stuck between the holder and the rear bar. I'm not sure how to remove the holders, it looks like they are plastic welded in. Has anyone removed these and succesfully re-attached them?
The car is a VE Calais V with factory sensors

You could try softening the polish with some quick detailer and then use some compressed air to blow out the polish.
Cheers, Tim.

get a nice soft toothbrush and some window cleaner. works every time and doesn,t hurt your paint. :bawl:

take it to the local car wash and use a high pressure hose. no rubbing or scratching.

Our VE has the factory sensors and twice while cleaning the rear bar I've had the sensor and holder come off and fall behind the bar, it seems they were only held on there by black silicone / sealer (the same crap they used to hold the door moulds/strips on the earlier models). So be gentle!!!

The sensors should more or less Clipped in
I fitted genuine holden ones to my SSV and they push in from the outside and clip in, only reason they would be plastic welded/siliconed in is if the holes were cut to big in the bumper and didnt clip as they should (Assuming there the same design as i bought, which i cant see why they wouldnt be)
If the bar is off, it would be interesting to see pictures of how your sensors are held in to really get an idea of what your talking about

Don't do this. Water and compressed air will do the trick if it hasn't dried. Use an all purpose cleaner if it has.

Dig it out with a toothpick.

The factory fitted sensors (the one he has) are a different design to the genuine dealer fitted sensors (the one you got).

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to take the bar off again to have another look and take some photos. If the holders are only held on by silicon/sikaflex then they might be easy to remove and replace. Otherwise i'll try the other suggestions.

Mate, my old man is a retired panel beater. He taught me a trick that they always use to use when ever they detailed cars. Go and buy the softest shoe brush you can find and use it to get the polish out of any hard to get to spots. I do this when ever i polish my Monaro and swear by it! Works a treat on my reverse sensors!

I thought the holders might be welded at the circles you can see above and below the sensor hole, but prying lightly with a screwdriver the whole thing moves.

I would use a soft brush (as I have in the past) to get it out...
