Hi - just got off the phone booking the VY in for its regular service, and the mechanic I go to (a small local shop that has been really good in the past) supplies and fits new tyres if you order them when booking the car in. I told him I needed 2 new tyres, and he said they now get a brand called "Westlake". The tyres will be 215/60 16 (standard alloys).
Has anyone heard of or used these tyres? The mechanic said he's fitted a few now, and has had good feedback. The car won't be driven like it's on the track, and spends about three quarters of its time commuting in the city, and a quarter doing trips.
Thoughts?

Yeah I had a look at the webpage, but there didn't seem to be that much info really. I figure someone here has probably come across them and can shed some light.
All I'm really looking for is "for an 8 year old stocker that's not thrashed, you'll be fine"...

Even with a stock LS1 how do you get traction with 215 width tyres?
A quick google found this,

The article confirms my suspicions - a Chinese made tyre of Sh*t quality with a nice westernised name.
Mate, get a well known brand - Cheaper Dunlops or Goodyears are better than risking a chinese tyre with with a dubious back ground. Even if these known brands are made in China you know it will be decent quality as they cannot let there reputation and name suffer because of a poor quality tyre.

How much did he quote you for them?
They are a cheap tyre and will result in them being noisy, poor in the wet and as time goes on their grip levels will decrease
Bridgestone has a sale on at the moment, quality tyres at reasonable prices

Thanks for the feedback. The mechanic also sources Maxxis tyres. I got him to put a couple of these Maxxis onto my Astra last year, and so far they have been good. I might try a pair on the VY and see how it goes.

How about going to Northwest and getting some good fully imported Continental tyres?
In my experience, great wet and dry tyres that last longer than domestic market tyres.
