That's so cool :goodjob: $41.1m for a steel press? Is that all :1peek: Really, we have to consider that for everything that goes into making our cars, they're pretty good value

Saw that this morning, pretty good vid and it puts it into perspective what actually goes into making the cars.:goodjob:

They are extremely good value, especially when compared with times past. 20 years ago it still cost about $30k to put a base model Commodore on the road.

Yes cool video but,
"$532,000,000 to get the VE in to production", where did the other $468,000,000 go to from the billion dollar baby?

$41.1m for a steel press is alot, but remember that it can be used with different dies to make different shape cars.

Designers?
I would have thought to get something into "production" it would have had to go through the "design" process.

Yeah, true, though maybe the $532m was purely plant costs. IDK

Yeah it would seem that $500m was spent on the plant according to Skaify from the billion dollar baby show.

So over $500m in design and R&D.

0:40 - Are those under-body panels the aero panels that were introduced on the SII?

Just for a comparison of how the VX was made.
Very average quality video but thought I would share anyway.

I think steve_t is probably right. Design would be where the bulk of the left over dollars are.
The problem is the original quote is wrong as it completely left out what the half mill was invested in. The quote should actually read "$532,000,000 were invested into Holden Vehicle Operations to get VE Commodore into production"
In other words they spent a shit load on the production line to make the car.
Hope that helps.
Cheers

I thought that they got the panels stamped off site from other suppliers, maybe that is why the cost was so high, investing in plant and buildings to manufacture everything, I think I remember reading that pretty much the entire plant received an up grade.
i see at 2.46 a hsv is going down the line.great videos.
