Hey guys,
I'm in the market for a new ute (I have an xr6 at the moment) and my local dealer is offering me $40,000 for an SS brand new or $45,000 for the SSV.
Do you recon these are good prices? He says he can only guarantee those prices till Monday (sales gimmick?) as Holden might change their bonuses.
Also, is it worth the extra 5k for the ssv?
Cheers.

a dealer this week was offering 2010 SSV Redline utes for $44k for manual and $45k for auto driveaway.
yes a year old technically but was $10k+ off RRP
yet the SSV was only $700 cheaper :\ dont ask me why but thats all the difference was!

Where were these dealers that you guys got those prices? I'm up in Townsville at the moment, but if they were that cheap in Brissy, I'd go down there.

My son was looking at utes a few mths back, I will never buy new and I wont let him either, we went to pickles auctions just to see what they were going for and a couple of total orig late 2009 ss manual utes went for around 29k, with only 5-6000kms, so in my opinion Id be looking at 2009 model up if I were you, can save heaps and you wont loose out as much when you decide to sell it, but that just my opinion.

I'm getting it through salary sacrificing, so that's why I'm going new.
Also, those cars you guys were saying you got for cheap, were they 2010 or 2011?
Cheers.

Rather than speculate on a forum about what's a good price or not.....
Go to several dealers and beat them down on price. Then when they start telling you they can't go any lower...Then you are probably at a pretty good price.
Unless you are just plain shit at negotiating.
:)
I'm in the market for a new car too...and I am pretty confident I am getting the best deal I can.

To my knowledge the SSVs have always been 5K dearer than the SS( well in the ute anyway )

whats it matter whether it be 2010 or 2011 build?
youll save a considerable amount and have more bargaining power, hopefully save some of the hit when traded/sold later down the track.
but that also depends on how long your keeping the vehicle for!
like stated above, look around for a 12 month or less car, with low kms and youll save a bit.
iv bought 2 cars with 2200kms on it.
first was a 2 yr old VZ ute that was never driven.
the other was a 6 month old VE sv6 ute.
neither could afford to keep them, so i managed to save a considerable amount on both!

Anyone Brought a Series II manual SS in WA if so waht did you pay thinking of trading mine for a new one
I bought my 2008 XR6T new in 2009. I asked the dealer how much difference the 2008 plate would make come trade-in time. His response. Next to nothing compared to the savings we're offering. That was good enough for me.
Don't forget to factor in the "future value of money". If you save having to borrow an extra $10k, you save heaps more than that figure over time.

I was offered a series II SSV manual ute with no options for 44k.
Went out and bought series I demo (basically) and saved bulk cash!
To quote myself...
What is a good price?
That is impossible to answer... I might think $20k is too much to pay for something, others will differ...
YOU should pay what YOU are prepared to pay, and what YOU can AFFORD...
Simple as that.. Don't financially over commit...

i paid 47k for 2011 s2 ssv man ute 20" supersports, tint, tank of premium, dashmat, floor mats and mud flaps from wa if that helps
47k??
Jesus.. I paid 36k brand new 11kms for my 08 a couple of years ago. The "economic crises" couldn't have come at a better time for me lol.
Only got 30k for a trade in 10 months later but only paid 39000 for a brand new FG T auto! I say you boys need to go harder.. There are deals out there and paying over 40k for these cars is insane.

Thanks for the reply guys. I'm on the blower to some dealers down south, they've allready offered me a better price than the guys up here.
But for $1000 more expensive than a 2010 plate, wouldn't you be better off going 2011? The resale value would cover the 1k wouldn't it?

resale by the time u sell it there would be a couple more models out so either way u lose

I certainly would, especially if the 2010 was only series 1. Even if it was series 2 vs series 2 I'd pay $1,000 or even a bit more to get a 2011 plated car.
According to Carsales these are the expected private prices on M6 SSV utes.
08 SSV ute M6 $28,700 - $31,800
09 MY9.5 SSV ute M6 $31,400 - $34,700
(09 MY10 SSV ute M6 $33,900 - $37,400)
The 07 figure is misleading as utes were only released in Sep 07.

Have you considered using a broker? My daughter and her partner want a new or near new Navara ute and one of the reasons I just logged on was to try to find the details of a broker I saw recommended on here a while ago.

that price was when holden were in the shit buddy and had a paddock full of cars, 08 models were cheap, anyone could get them for that i know 5 of my mates that got ssv utes for that, good price but i reckon they should be that price all the time, theres no way ide pay over 40k for a holden ute again

I worked off 35K for a SS manual ute, 40K for the SSV.
I bought a SS with leather, met paint, reversing sensors, tint, mats, manual for 36.8K.
I thought I got a pretty good deal, I may have been able to save a couple hundred more if I tried harder but it wasn't worth the hassle....Was already 12K under retail.
When I picked it up I rang the insurance company. I wanted to insure it for $40K in case I couldn't get the same price in the future........but the insurance company would not insure it for more than $36K. That was BEFORE I told them how much I was paying.
So maybe get an insurance quote and see what they will cover it for, they seem to be pretty wise regarding market values.

No it was not.........it was current model and year at the time. Got it special order straight off the production line.
Here's a 2011 SSV auto for 42,990 http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/bncis/details.aspx?trecs=21&tsrc=allcarhome&__Ntk=CarAll&Cr=2&__Ns=pCar_PriceSort_Decimal|0||pCar_RankSort_Int32 |1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&R=9963138&seot=1&__N=1216%201246%204294965857%204294964873%20%20179 4&silo=1011&__sid=12AFB1E58519&keywords=ve%20ss%20ute&__D=ve%20ss%20ute&SearchAction=N&YearFromShort=1794&__Ntt=ve%20ss%20ute&__Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&__Qpb=true&__Nne=15&__Dx=mode%20matchany
But my point is to call the insurance company and see what they will cover the vehicle for as they are not going to give you more than market value.
