Hi all, I'm sorry if this has already been covered, but, I'm new to the modding of the LS1.

I've got myself a cv8z monaro, and I'm a bit bored with the power she's making.

I'm chasing 300rwkw and 900+nm torque. (Is this realistic?)

I've got a budget of around $14K.

Been tossing up between cam and headwork, exhaust, stally, 3.7 diff gears, otr and tune to suit.

or

Supercharging, and exhaust and tune to suit.

Any suggestions/hints/tips from some of the pros would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance. :)

Best regards.

Hi to you sir.

With that budget you will be able to do heaps.

You would be advised to search all the posts and then ask specific questions
about finer points.

Heads, valve springs, 4 into 1 di fillipo extractors with 2.5 or 3" exhaust.
OTR cold air.
Cam, lifters, 3.7's will be good.
Etc Etc Etc.

Dan from Chipmaster has a gr8 write up on his monaro he did.
He is a forum sponser, click on hos shop and go th the info.

Rob.

Yep, have a chat with one of your local Forum Sponsors. You will easily achieve 300rwkw within that budget (well within). You will also have a car that is way too powerful for daily duties lol.

Harrop Supercharger.

for 14k I doubt it if he could fit and tune it him self yes
but he will need fuel system and exhaust as well
so if he pays someone to do it all no chance

For 14k I would be ringing ASE for a single T800 Turbo Kit and Fuel System

That should set you back around 8k and with the remaining 6k you can pay for labour to fit and tune it aswell as getting a decent set of cats and cat back exhaust system

Diff gears will not be required however the auto will not live long so I would be getting a tranny cooler at a minimum

That should see 350+rwkw being an Auto with mountains of torque

Cheers,

Millsy

Thanks for all the info guys . Ive called around a few shops and manority would recommend going all,motor.. Cam, ported heads, valves, etc, 3.7 diff gears, tranny cooler, fu exhaust, otr, stally, underdrive pully, tune.

Meanwhile ive alao been told that for the price I may aswell stroke it or supercharge.

Harrop Supercharger.
Cheers, Pickles.

i have a harrop supercharger there great around town lots of power off the line but i find its a little poor out on the highway when you want to get into it. it all depends how you want to drive the car.

thanks for all the replies everyone :)

What I'm looking for is a fun daily driver that I will enjoy and is still tough on the street. Not looking to get down the 1/4 faster (well, I guess I am, but that's beyond the point!).

I've done a bit of research and as I said, torn between all motor, or supercharging.

I want the tranny to last as long as possible, and eventually to hand the car down to my son when he's old enough to have a car.

Going the supercharger could see good power and mountains of torque, but, my wife hates the sound of the whining and abhors the sound of blow offs.

She's watched a few videos on Yotube of "cammed LS1's" and loves how they sound! So I'm kind of leaning towards that.

anyways, end of rambling. Will continue my research and calling around. When the project gets under way I'll start a"my ride" section.

Thanks and best regards

Hey mate,

I hate to be the "safe logical person" but if its a daily driver and your son might be driving it one day, have you considered building a better "package" rather than outright power?

By that i mean for $14k you could do the usual engine mods (Cam, Exhaust, OTR, Tune, Springs etc), but also upgrade the suspension and braking system. Plus a diff upgrade (say some better gears and a LSD) and possibly some cooling mods (transmission cooler) and the car will come alive.

Just going down the power route will be quick in a straight line but may not be overly reliable and wont drive as nice in the hills etc.

Just something to consider.

Cheers, Errol.
