Pics and/or a rego would help. Black sportswagon with tint on 22's doesn't really give people a lot to work with.

interesting, didn't think you could with the Transponder keys they use, no code no engine run.
That why they resort to stealing your keys, or chucking you out at lights these days I thought.
but maybe they have worked out a hot wire method now, to bad the guys doing engine conversions have to get the pcm reprogrammed, maybe they could use the method instead.

tuning software + spare bcm/keys + turn off VATS
would make for easy pickings id say?

bcm = body control module
bcm generally handles the codes for the keys etc
have a spare bcm with keys that match then im assuming you could plug this in and turn off the anti-theft stuff in the ecu and start the car?
people with more knowledge tell me if im wrong

that would all take some time to do plug in a new BCM etc... they prefer 5 secs don't they lol...
Tow it away...
anyway hope it turns up.....was just interesting if they have a quick hotwire method now or not

After the experience I've had with a faulty key transponder/immobiliser - AKA a TDM in Holden speak, I've learnt quite a bit about the anti-theft capability that the VE has, and how hard it is to get around.
The TDM (keyreader & immobiliser module under the ignition barrell) cannot be re-coded. Once a new one has a code uploaded that's it. It feeds the BCM, and in turn the PCM.
So you're up for a new TDM & matching keys, and the BCM would still need to be linked to the TDM , as well as the PCM, and all of it would have to handshake via the canbus for it to work. You probably need to have it hooked up to Holden's TIS system to even get it all to work.
I'd be favouring the tow truck at this point......
OR - a much easier method for those with the right connections, which became well known in the media after the ring operating out of a Sydney dealer's service centre were busted, is to copy a key & code a new one to the car. Then track it down later (address in the service files) and steal it with the key.
This was much easier to do covertly in VT-VZ, as you could add new keys without erasing old ones (and thus not raising suspicion because all the existing keys work). I'm led to believe that the VE requires all desired keys to be present when programming a new key - hence any that aren't will be dropped from the system, and no longer work. Of course this won't stop anyone doing it, but they will be caught out sooner, as your spare keys that stayed home at the last service will suddenly no longer work.

that what i thought, so they got the key, key was in it or it was towed away.

yeah like i said boys im just going on what my brother has told me, from what i can make out from your replys, his car isnt something that you can steal in 2 especially if you dont have the keys.... i think my dumb ass bro droped his keys outside and didnt even notice

not saying this is what happened but a mate of mine in insurance reckons a lot of new car thefts are from the thieves getting lucky and finding the spare key in the car, generally with the drivers handbook or centre console.
hope the car shows up mate
