Tried searching, but didn't come up with the answer I was looking for...

Just wondering if anyone can tell me if 20w 50 would be ok in a 170k ls1?
Previously I've used Castrol Magnatec 10w40, and although I haven't had any issues with it, I think it's still a bit thin and still have a fair bit of lifter noise.

Also in regards to brands... Can anyone recommend something that they've found good? Penrite was recommended by the same person, but haven't heard/read anything from anyone about it.

Anyway, yes it will be fine. A lot of members here run 10W60 as it really protects the engine (especially when the kms get higher).

Branding is personal choice. Ideally go for something fully synthetic (look to pay $60-90 for 5L though).

20w when cold might be a bit thick for the LS1 motor (not that it stays cold for too long though).
