Don't know if it's any help in your situation, but my '07 VE was doing that on & off (about once a week) in October '08.

I thought it was probably a poor connection to the unit itself, so I'd already had the covers off & unplugged/replugged the connectors into the stereo, as well as popping the front off & putting it back (hoping to get a better connection to the front plate). None of that did any good though.

As it was a few thousand short of the service, I waited until then & reported it. The guys who serviced it mentioned updating the software, which I was skeptical about, however the problem has never returned. How old is your SS?

My car does this all the time of late. It started with a no response from the headunit. It would just go blank. But it would still keep playing music etc. Jiggle the bottom of the headunit and it should come back.

The other thing to try is to pull the fascia of the stereo unit off and clean the contacts. I was told rubbing alcohol.

Since then mine was going fine. Then all of a sudden, the fix was done on my car where the second pulley was put on because I kept dropping the a/c belt. Since then, the headunit hasn't played up. Instead I get another error. In the middle of the cluster where k's are shown I get a big 'X with Contact Dealer written under it.
