Anyone can reply but I would like to hear from ppl who have a L98 6.0lt.

I am thinking about some Higgins heads for my A6 with Cam & stallie, as usual it depends who you talk who whether to go for them or not, some say the engine already has good heads, others say hell yeah go the Higgins.

So I am asking for guys who have forked out the $ & would like to now if they are happy with the result for the $ spent.

Also the gain results would be good.

Thanks

Paul

LSX LS7 heads with fast 102 making 600RWHP awesome head higgins ported.

If you are spending the money you could look into all pro heads in the L98 configuration or LS7 if you want even more flow texas speed do it too both are ported and work out alot cheaper than buying new heads and getting them ported here in australia.

If it were me i'd be going with a set of LS7 all pro cnc ported in the usa, just based on price and that it suits my application of course.

Do yourself a favour and go speak to Higgins about everything you want out of your car....they have the experience and the runs on the board from top fuellers, V8 Supercars to average joe that wants a HiPo street car.
Also you will be supporting an aussie business with a world class product.

i couldnt justify the $1800 for a set of heads that dont give the biggest gain on the L98 so instead i just had mine shaved for the extra compression which cost less than $200. but saying that some people have had some pretty big gains from them

he can not run a allpro or any other ls7 head that comes with a 2.200 valve--he does not have the bore size -

the 2.165 moves enough air for what he needs-

Bigger than 4" bore, the std 6ltr is 4.00" already.

needs at least 4.060 and even that is near the bore wall-

safe with a ton of space is 4.070 for a 2.200 valve-about .035 thou off the wall-

Best bet is to give em a call and have a chat. I did get my L98 heads ported and shaved to bump up comp by higgins. Engine was out of the car and pulled apart already so it seamed like a good option. Was it worth it? Well 336rwkw in a vy with built auto and 4200rpm stallie says yes.

I have given this some thought & have spoken to a couple of people & have decided not to go for heads.

Reason being is the cost for the gain, Heads, labour, retune. I would also change lifters while the heads are off, so probably not much change from $5,000 for maybe 25rwkw.

I can get a blower for $8,000 driveaway for maybe 100rwkw gain, no brainer there for me.

But thanks for the replies.

The gain is minimum, a bit of a tidy up of the heads comp bump and decent stick and the correct tune is all you need with L98's. Harrop or turbos stay clear of the vortech's.

Is there any room to upgrade with the blower?
Just saying you may be left wanting more with the cheaper blower kits.
May also make more peak HP but what about the torque? A head and cammed 6L is a pretty good street combo when done right.
I also agree, Harrop HTV1900/2300 or nothing!

I run a 'cheap blower kit' magnusson mp1900 with a mild cam, standard airbox and make 352 rwkw on 5 psi and 809nm torque.

You dont necessarily need to spend 13+ grand on a Harrop I'f you don't want too.

I'm quite confident with an upgraded pulley 10psi or equivalent, fuel pump upgrade and air box config should see 400 rwkw which is more than ample for the standard bottom end!

Haven't decided on brand yet, I know Harrop are good but they come with a good price tag also.

Anyone that knows me can tell you what I am like with my car, but gee it's alot of coin.

I don't drive it hard to often or drag it much due to living in Warnvegas, so it's hard to justify it at all but I just want 1.

agreed. mate has 122 (not sure of spec HH or Mag but he got it cheap run out deal) on his L98 with custom cam makes 390 odd kw at the treads. animal. you dont need the latest and greatest to make big power. plus the older ones sound better

anyway back on topic of heads :)

While I certainly agree that it's more than enough power for the street and you wouldn't want much more boost on a stock bottom end, I wouldn't call the 1900's a "cheap" kit. If you can find me one drive in/out for $8K like was mentioned above, i'll take it! From memeory, just the kit is around 8K give or take? I know the 122's have been on a bit of a 'run-out' pricetag but you may as well go all out and get the 1900!
I'm guessing for the 8K pricetag, it would be a 5PSI Vortech?

I bought my MP1900 for 7k brand new. I then needed 60Lb injectors that they included for an extra $500. Complete kit with all the bits, just needed install.

You're right in that you prob won't find a drivein/out price for that but it does come with full step by step colour instructions and doesn't look to difficult if you have basic mechanical skills or know someone.

I agree that getting the MP1900 was worth it over the M112 and also for 8k driveaway price would more than likely be the 5psi Vortech Kit. I'm glad I spent a few grand more and got the PD Blower. Nearly instant power of the pedal is scary!!!!

It wasn't the 5psi Vortech, but doesn't matter now as I have bought the MP2300 for not much more than what I previously said.

Thanks John

Yep, I will post up the results & some pics when I get home from Mildura, decided to do lifters also as I have been concerned about these since getting the cam last year. Peter tried to talk me out of it, but knows I am a worry wart when it comes to the car, so that means another day up there now. No biggie though as of Sat I am on 7 weeks holiday :woohoo:
