Not such a laugh when that is the only brand it will be sold as worldwide except Australia

We already have a full parts listing for the 2011's.
There's a fair bit of overseas info on the net, but the main change for us besides mostly the frontal styling is the fitment of 3.0 sidi V6 and 2.2 turbo diesel engines, so more power and better economy.

I saw one in testing a few months back in the inner city roads with a lot of camo on the front. Rear seemed pretty unchanged with only tape over the badges to hide what it was.

Here is some information on the new one with images included:

Captiva has an east west front drive based driveline, so it can't be a Commodore auto.

As one of the highest selling "SUV's" on the market little things like this clearly don't bother most people. Most cars have pretty visible cost cutting if you actually look.
The salesman doesn't exactly sound like one the best out there though, if he has to "try" to sell Captiva's...

Before I pull the trigger, I want to be sure I can program engine & trnsmission.
My current 2007 has the worst programmed transmission of any car I have owned.
Purchased HPTuners who promised tansmission support, which never materialised.

There's some info on it here.

The last Captiva 5 I drove was a manual petrol and it was woefully slow. Glad to see it's got a new donk, diesel too.

Dealer launch for Series 2 Captiva is in March.

Will there still be a 5 priced version. $26,990 for the 5 is in there with Dualis and Xtrail 2 litre 2WD versions, ASX 2 litre 2WD, and I think low end Kia maybe Hyundai. I'm thinking if the 2.4 is gone then there probably won't be any under $30,000. Would the 2.4 be slower than is competition in the same price bracket.

Judging on the link that Paul posted it looks pretty much ready for launch. The one thing I have never understood is that why are three airvents needed in the centre of the car? I am sure two is more than adequate in the smaller Captiva.

Used to think the same, but... Driver, Passenger, and head high back seat. Sometimes, for me it's a 2 vent kinda day when I am driving and cooking!

It's probably because they don't have any in rear which I hope they have corrected in the new model!

2.2 Diesel 135kw@3800RPM / 400nm@2000RPM (Captiva 5 AND 7)
3.0 SIDI Petrol 190kw@6900RPM / 288nm@5800RPM (Captiva 7 ONLY)

Dissapointed. Front bar is eer while the rear lights are too chrome and bling. That fad has been and gone about 5 years ago.

Good pickup, I'm looking at the pic thinking where is it, then the penny drops. So would that be electric mechanism? How does that work. If it's electric and you have problems with it, will it lock on, or off? Maybe it just uses power to toggle on or off, but held by springs or something in either state? Hopefully if your battery goes flat the car doesn't roll down the hill!

I think ADRs require a cable operated hand brake. If it is electronic don't expect it to remain the same when they get to Oz ;)

Er...despite the fact that we're looking at interior shots of cars with Holden badges on the steering wheels? I doubt somehow that the pics are of a specific NZ model with electronic park brake :)

Maybe you actually just pull the switch back to operate a cable - ie it's not really a switch at all, think of it as a very short lever?

This video shows how it is operated. Seems to be a pull back of the button.

YouTube - Holden Series II Captiva 5 and Captiva 7

It also has the Series II badges which feature on the Commodore too along with the Captiva 5 seeming to keep the AH Astra radio controls.

Series 2 Captiva definitely comes with an electronic handbrake.
A variety of other currently on sale (mostly Euro) vehicles already have these, so there are no ADR issues for us.

Australian Design Rule 31.2.2.1
The vehicle must be equipped with a parking brake system such that in the applied position retention is effected by mechanical means

I'm interested to know how the park brake system works. It can't just be a matter of an electric solenoid pulling on a cable, or even a solenoid operating the hydraulic system in the brakes because that's not mechanical retention.

2011 Holden Captiva (Holden) | Antara, Captiva Service Manual | Brakes | Park Brake | Description and Operation |
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Electronic Parking Brake Control Module Description
Vehicles with the electric parking brake have a switch in the center console, which takes the place of the manual parking brake system, the foot pedal and release handle. In case of insufficient electrical power, the electric parking brake cannot be applied or released.

Parking Brake Control Module
The parking brake control module has an internal motor, apply actuator, release actuator, and temperature sensor. The parking brake control module also contains the logic for applying and releasing the parking brake when commanded by the park brake control switch. When the parking brake control module receives a signal from the switch the internal circuit board temperature is checked to verify it is within operating range before the control module performs the requested operation.

Electric Parking Brake Apply
The electric parking brake can be applied any time the vehicle is stopped or in motion. The electric parking brake is applied by momentarily lifting up on the park brake control switch. The red park brake light will momentarily flash while the parking brake is being applied. Once fully applied, the red park brake light will turn on. If the electric parking brake is applied while the vehicle is in motion, a chime will sound, and the message "Release Park Brake Switch" will be displayed.

If the red park brake light is flashing, the electric parking brake is only partially applied or released, or there is a problem with the electric parking brake. The message "Service Park Brake" will be displayed.

Electric Parking Brake Release
To release the electric parking brake, turn the ignition switch to the ON or RUN position, apply and hold the brake pedal, and push down momentarily on the park brake control switch. When the electric parking brake is released the red park brake light turns off.

The electric parking brake can be used to prevent roll back for vehicles with a manual transmission taking off on a hill. In a situation where no roll back is desired, an applied electric parking brake will allow both feet to be used for the clutch and accelerator pedals in preparation for starting the vehicle moving in the intended direction. In this situation, perform the normal clutch and accelerator actions required to begin moving the vehicle. There is no need to push the switch to release the electric parking brake. To disable this feature lift and hold the park brake control switch while the vehicle is in motion, this will keep the electric parking brake applied.

No chance of a push start then if you have a flat battery and the handbrake is on....what will Daewoo think of next?

Another pointless feature that introduces cost and complexity and provides more opportunity for things to break. Marvellous.

VW SUV's have them and they work really well. I am sure there is some sort of failsafe incorporated in them.

Increasingly common on Euro vehicles.
