Exhaust or tune making all the power?

Not sure about my own car but a colleague i know had his vx series 2 ss tuned on the dyno to make 209rwkw. This car had no modifications other than intake which was done with tune. His base run was 174rwkw bog stock.

He then gets a full exhaust fitted and retuned on same dyno for 219rwkw 10rwkw with full exhaust, 4-1 long headers, high flow cats and twin 2.5
Inch system? 10rwkw for about $2000?

I have pretty much the same mods on my car for a last run of 226rwkw but i never did a base run and my car is vy ss.

The exhaust guy said to me these systems make upto 40rwkw? I was under the impression the power was in the headers and cats?

Is it the tune making the power or the exhaust? My colleagues numbers suggest the tune? So what would a stock ls1 do with no tune and full exhaust only?

No exhaust system will make 40rwkw alone.
When combined with a custom tune you should see anywhere between 220rw-240rw.

I had a 2001 VX R8-
194rw stock
223rw maf tune and 2nd hole mod
233rw 2.5" DF exhaust, hi flo cats and tweak of tune
239rw 1.75" DF headers and tweak of tune

All done on a mainline dyno using efilive

Only time you'd make 40rwkw is if you've got massive internal engine mods and the stock exhaust system is acting as a massive restriction.

However on a normal engine/basic mods you wont make that much power regardless of the exhaust system.

To get the full 40 rwkw seat must be layed back cap on backwards and stero turned way up
