Hi Guys,

I bought a book on Supercars. It's filled with stats on Lamo's, Ferraris Maseratis, Corvettes etc from a few years ago.

I was quite surprised to see that their Standing Qtr and 0-100 times are pretty much the same as today's SS's and XR's. I guess we take 0-100km in the low fives for granted these days? Familiarity breeds contempt?

In it's day the GTHO P3 was considered the fastest accelerating 4 door on the planet. Now it would get it's arse handed to it by the run of the mill family SS or XR6T / 8.

We definitely take this stuff for granted - but will your 2030 SS go as hard as today's Lambos? :)

They will be 400kw, but weigh in @ 3 tonnes

This is one of my favourite videos.

YouTube - One Lap Race of Bathurst - Speed Comparison between Holdens - Peter Brock Mark Skaife

Forget the V8 Supercar, check out the slight time difference between the race bred winning A9X and the road car.

On Conrod, you can hear in the surprise in BRocks voice that he couldnt reel the road car in.

Yeah, love that video as well, :goodjob:
imagine it if the SS Commodore had an exhaust and a decent tune? :)

Love that clip too!

I wonder how an LS3 E-series with decent brakes would go. McConville made comment about the brake pedal being long by the end of the lap. Skaife took McC at Murray's by going way deeper under brakes.

Great video :) 04 VZ SS does ok! I would have to wonder what a stock 04 HSV GTS coupe with its better brakes/ suspension and better aero dynamics would have done?

Just goes to show that V8 racing would be far more interesting if the vehicles were more closely aligned with production cars.

Wasn't there something about the A9X having the wrong diff ratio fitted for that demo (ie. not suitable for Bathurst) and hence PB ran out of steam down Conrod?

Either way, I still love the sound of those old skool V8's.

Correct. The A9X was as last raced which wasn't Bathurst which meant it had the wrong ratio. There's a thread over on gmh-torana forum about it.

I never grow tired of watching that video. I'd love to see something similar done again with with later models, like an HSV GTS, W427 or even supercharged GT or FG F6.

Very cool. We have come a long way and we still demand more. Thats the nature of consumers. A Falcon XT with drag radials would probably run the 1/4 mile faster than most older supercars. Hell even a Corolla would probably give them a scare. Around the twisties it might be a different matter...

I also read that the SS was ' raceprepped by Holden ' love to know the extent of their ' prepping '

A0X's from the faqctory had ludicrous gearing. 2.6:1. There was no chase on Conrod Straight till 1987 after the fatal smash in 1986. I guess they needed the gearing for a relaxed run down the hill.

I think V8 Supercars is a crock. How did Lowndes convert his Falcon to a Holden? Change the engine? Oops and the panels? What the wheelbase of the Commodre V8 Supercar and what's the wheelbase of a road VE? Bring back production car racing. Let them ban cars over $100k if they want to keep Godzilla out of the race.

What about these Drive a V8 Racer Crowds? X hundtrd dollars for a few laps around a race track. Are these cars really V8 Supercars? How to check from the outside? How many wheel nuts do they have? I suspect some might be SS's with stickers.

Given the fact that you want a racing series brought back that has been around for a very long time goes to show how unpopular it is compared to V8 Supercars.
