What would be the best 60ft time that could be had with street tyres on the strip?

Ive always been getting around 2.1, 2.0 with a quick one. Some guys get 2.5 which is purely down to traction.

If you can get under 2.0 your a hero, without 4wd, slicks etc.

2.1sec in My VK with street tyres and 3.08 diff gears, it was right on the edge of wheel spin, had to take off from idle and only on the primary throttle body.
I will be trying again on street tyres with my new engine but i doubt i will even get close to that fugure as it will have much more power.

Howdeh.

I'm noticing more and more references to people's time over the first 60 feet (both on the forums & at the drag strip).

What's the significance of this distance? :deal:

Read this:

http://www.prestage.com/Tech+Info/Drag+Racing/81.aspx

Then look at most of the times posted on the fast list.

Out of a 13 second pass 2 seconda are spent in the first 60 foot.

It takes 15% of your time to cover 4.5% of the track.

If you cover the first 60 foot in less time you have picked up more speed in that time which is then carried over the rest of the track, if you pick up a couple of extra mph in your terminal it is probably only carried over the last few hundrew feet.

If you shave a couple of tenths off of your sixty you will typically gain 1.5 times that off of your total time.

But what is the significance of the time at the 60 foot mark as opposed to say the 100 foot mark or the 30 foot mark?

The 60' mark has been used since the laser timing system was bought into existance. To be honest i have no idea why 60' was chosen, but for me I use it as an indication of the cars performance and consistancy due to its relatively short distance.

If it was further you'd be in 2nd gear, so a missed gear would ruin the time. If it was shorter, the fast cars, like fuel cars that do 60' in 0.9sec and less wouldnt register, or would register as 0.32secs (for example.) 60' gives a std to chase for your car and to compare times with your mates.

If you spin the tyres hard off the line, you'll notice an 0.2 or 0.3 slower 60' time. Your ET will reflect the same loss in time however the MPH wont be too different as you will have lost a little in effective track length, just the ET in the wasted wheelspin.

Hope this helps and gives you a bit more of an idea into the 60' time.

Cheers,

Darren

John,

Dyno tuned on COME's engine dyno, i can email you a copy of the screen (photo) if you're interested. It's never been on a chassis dyno.

It made 495FwHp and 465FtLb's Corrected to 505FwHp i think!?!? As per the article done on the engine in Australian Muscle car.

Since then i have fine tuned it a bit and from those ignition changes i picked up 0.2sec back to back. So i am guessing a genuine 515~520FwHp.

Darren
P.S. i'll need your email if you want to have a look at the screen..

No real need...I was interested in the weight aswell seeing as all the talk of 500hp engine lately and their performance at the track. I assume you are at about 3100lb race weight?

best 60' on street tyres was 2.06

best on slicks was 1.950

I would expect 60' times on slicks to come down with practice:hide:

Last time I went out (about two years ago), my two best 60ft was 1.995 (13.7 100mph) and a 1.966 (13.8 100mph) and that was basically a stock car with 14inch retreads.

You took retreads to 100mph?

Yep. They are a lot stickier the street tyres when warmed up. You are only over the speed for less then 15 secs.

Retreads are banned by ANDRA and if the guy scrutineering your car spots them, I am sure you will not get on the track.

PS Sorry I just spotted you are in Adelaide which is not an ANDRA track. They will probably let you do WTF you want to !

I finally had my rear guards flared so my MT 275x17 street radials wouldn't touch under squat. I went to the Motorplex on Wed evening and was given good and bad news after my first run. The good was 11.87@120.0 and the bad was I wasn't allowed to run anymore until I had a driveshaft hoop and 4 point harness installed. Is this new? I thought you could run until you did a 10 then you needed a cage as well?

My 60foot was 1.98 sec. I believe this, like the et is slow for a 120mph car. I had just held it against the stock stally and then left on full throttle. I got plenty of wheelspin but not such that it broke loose. I ran the MT's at 26psi. I have since read that the top street radial cars in the US run around 15psi. As it has no problems spinning the tryes off idle I don't believe a higher stall would be of any benefit and detract from driveability on the street. Any tips on other things which might improve my 60 foot to do the 11.3 that the 120mph indicates my car should do would be greatly appreciated.

The car is a silver 60k km 2006 VZ ute, SQP supplied and installed, Chipmaster tuned forged piston wet sumped LS7, 440 rwhp, 224/232@0.50 cam, 1 7/8 x 3in Difillipo with quad 3in tailpipes with butterfly shut offs on two, 3.73 Kazz, beefed 4l60E, adj Konis, Lovell springs, Boyd Junk Yard Dogs, pro flared guards, very low key custom front and rear clips. This car drives like it came from the factory with a 750rpm idle. I need another Harley so the ute is free for the price of the mods and includes the original L76 and LS7 dry sump. 0418 929 864
