Hi All,
Thought i would share some pics of my new ride. Its a 2010 plated E3 Maloo, Manual, Silver or "switchblade" according to the build plate. I took the leather and 20" Pentagons option and the dealer has sent it off to Walkinshaw for the Blower with dual 3" stainless exhaust and lowered springs.
Once it gets back to the dealer I am getting a sunroof put in and should get my first drive of it next week. I cant wait.
Cheers Greg.

Thanks for the comments, I won't be doing the cam or anything else till the 3 yr warranty is up. Walkinshaw gives a full drive train warranty with their blower kits.
It's the harrop HTV 1900, painted red and badged walkinshaw.

The ute was 61k driveway the blower and exhaust around 20k. I know I can get cheaper blowers etc but nobody else gives full 3 year driveline warranty. If I blow a clutch, engine, diff, anything it's fully covered. I am expecting 350rwkw. Cheers Greg.

Its a big selling point how Walkinshaw take over the three year warranty, its the only reason they can get away with charging the extra $$$
None the less they seem to do a top job & the ute looks the goods!

Out of interest - who is doing the sunroof for you? As I was inder the impression that dealers would not fit them to the VE utes due to structural integrity??
Happy to be corrected as I am keen to get one in my VE.

Yeah mate, I was going to go with the walky headers and cats but there isnt much power gain to be had with them (10 kw) because the cats dont flow much better than the stock ones. I will wait till the warranty is up then get a good set on it and lean on it a little more, cam etc.
Will post up power results when I get them.

She made 330rwkw, the boys at powertorque said to bring it back after I have done a few thousand k's , after it has loosened up a bit and they will retune it and should see 350.
Its back at the dealers getting a wheel alignment after being lowered and detailed before I pick it up this arvo.

HI
Just a question about the purchase,
I am currently going through ordering my new E3 Maloo :) My local dealer doesnt want anything to do with the walky Blower option, they suggest I talk to the Walkinshaw guys after the sale. They also say it may effect the new car warranty? Did you have the same issues or is your dealer looking after the whole package?

The dealer looked after the whole package, Walkinshaw take over the new car warranty on all driveline components i.e engine, clutch, gearbox, diff etc and HSV maintain the warranty on everything else that the fitment of the blower doesnt affect. Give Surfers City HSV a call or maybe another dealer in Brisbane.
Good luck with it, the power is simply brilliant. Still very driveable but when you plant the right foot and unleash almost 900 nm of torque it puts the biggest smile on your face.
Cheers Greg.

Hi Gladrock are you getting this maloo from the gladdy hsv dealer? if so we have a walkinshaw dealer in gladstone which can do everything in house and the new WP230 is sub 15K fitted and tuned and full 3 year warranty but would need the exhaust upgrade. Check out Stitts motors Walkinshaw Performance.

09-03-2011, 08:06 PM
the Glady dealer doesnt want anything to do with the Walkinshaw upgrade, there price for the Maloo before Walky upgrades is $15000 more than other dealers I have asked for quotes, It sounds like they dont understand the Walky/HSV relationship. I have approached 3 other dealers and all three have no trouble putting together a drive-away deal.
I am very over the local dealer, been dissapointed on many occasions with them

Yeah, the other side will catch up and go black eventually, I guess if you were anal enough you could use a texta or black paint on the other side. Mate,
I wrote to Walkinshaw last week and received the following reply:
The WP230 will be available as a stand alone unit, however it will not be available for the LS2 powered VE to begin with.
Unfortunately the WP230 has been developed initially to suit the L98 and LS3 powered vehicles as they use a very similar cylinder head.
I am trying to find out what will be available for the LS2 engine, however at this stage we can only offer a non-Walkinshaw Performance option.
We would suggest the Harrop HTV1900 package which is $14,000.00 supplied, fitted and tuned.
Gladrock, IanR8
Thanks for replies guy's, I have seen the US site but was after a Walkinshaw advert or info on the charger in OZ.
I have an LS3 so that's one thing in my favour I suppose.

I have found out a little bit about the WP 2300 chargers, they have longer intake runners and the intercooler is mounted on top of the charger not underneath it like mine. Thats why you cant see the charger anymore.
The pulley they come with only produces 5 psi boost not 8.5 psi like the 1900. So they are getting similar torque but not as much HP.
Again i am glad i got mine before the change. Walkinshaw may still fit a 1900 if you asked though?

Just the same story mate, power is addictive and once you get used to what you have, you always want more. The stock headers are ok but the cats are a bit restrictive so should see a few more kw's. I would love to put a blower friendly cam in it and a smaller pulley to up the boost too but that would void warranty.

Its great mate, silent when closed, sunny and windy when open haha. The pull across sunshade is great too for when the sun is right above you. It stops the glare but lets you keep the roof open.
The only little thing is that in its fully open position it just touches the aerial, even the little bee sting aerial that I put on. But its no prob because its fully programmable and its now programmed to stop just before it touches.

Yeah all done mate, its a bit louder, which sounds good. Only 10 rwkw up on the dyno read out, it feels stronger in the mid range. Its hard to road test top end without an auto-bahn handy.
Its not a huge difference at the moment really, but will be in the future when I cam it and shove more boost into it I would say. If you are going to leave yours just with blower only I would say dont bother spending the extra coin, the stock HSV extractors arent too bad.
Cheers Greg.

Its not a huge difference at the moment really, but will be in the future when I cam it and shove more boost into it I would say. If you are going to leave yours just with blower only I would say dont bother spending the extra coin, the stock HSV extractors arent too bad.
Cheers Greg.
Sounded good when you left Greg. A few more km's and extra carbon should see a nice note.
Nice to meet you mate. Car looks unreal in the flesh.

Thanks mate, yeah I went for a run down to coffs on the weekend and it sounds really good now, nice rumble at idle and like a V8 supercar when revved haha. See you around the traps.
Greg.
Gladrock,
I didnt think Walky did a bi modal exhaust? I certainly didnt want one as the standard maloo I test drove had the HSV bi modal exhaust and it sounded like a V6 it was way too quite for my liking.

Update on the ute, going for more power. Because enough is never enough haha.
Booked in at PTE in a couple of weeks for Cam upgrade 224/230 .600 lift 114LSA, more boost with rear gilmer drive upgrade to the blower and a new fuel system to support it all, VCM twin in tank set up.
Cant wait, will keep you posted.

Yeah the walky driveline warranty is gone, but you have to make sacrifices in the chase for more power I guess haha

LOL!@ I seem to remember someone talking up blower packages that come with warranty a few pages ago...

hahaha I sure was, its still a great package to maintain warranty but this power is just addictive! The more you get, the more you want! It should come with some sort of warning haha.
I also see that Power torque does a 427ci engine package too. Good to have a back up plan I guess.:)

Hi Greg. I have just bought a new e3 maloo and had the Walky 3" exhaust tune otr but different headers (meant to be better than walkys) installed and am also becoming addicted to the power. Wanting the wp230 on now as I want to keep the warranty. How is your ride going? Had and dramas with it and any recommendations for me?
Any feedback will be greatly appreciated.

No dramas at all mate, but I dont have any warranty anymore. I got walkinshaw to change the camshaft for more power a while ago (voided warranty)and I am just waiting for the tilt tray to bring my ute back from them today actually as I have had a boost upgrade rear gilmer drive fitted along with modified 80 pound injectors to keep the fuel up to it. Cant wait to get it back.
I have done track days and the oil temp got high (150 deg) so I also got them to install an oil cooler but apart from that I havent had a problem. I have been to the drags with it a couple of times too only prob was getting traction haha. Go for it, you will love it.
Cheers Greg.

Oil cooler is a great idea but also use a thicker oil on track as it doesnt thin out as much at high temps.

Gts Paul... Any benefits over your suggestion over walky?
Greg... I took mine to sandown couple weeks ago and the oil temp lights were going max. Guess that's what happens in a street car round a circuit. Thanks for the input. Will look into it.

Yeah mate, daily drive. Almost 13 000 km in around 5 months. Just as the truck turned up it started to rain!! Wet roads and 415 rwkw in a ute means take it easy haha. Sounds awesome with the gilmer drive.

It was suggested to me by Craig Hasted who I have worked with and regard as one the countries best engine builders that a 40 weight oil is too light at extreme temps and should use a 60 grade like 20 w 60 (dont cringe cause I did). the logic behind it is a 40 weight oil at 100 deg has the the same viscosity as a 60 weight at 140 deg.
I have to respect his opinion as he does build all the brute ute engines.

Choice of who you deal with is one good reason. Also choise of components and still have warranty.
You might prefer the Kpm package or vise versa. Before Kpm , Walkinshaw was the onlyway you could keep warranty with upgrades. Now there is a choice.
Thats got to be a good thing.

Yeah that may be the case but my ute is my daily drive to work and I dont have a hoist and its too low for ramps so i cant change my own oil. So I would need to hire a car ($50) and get a mechanic ($80)to change my oil (royal purple $200)the day before a track day. Then do it all again the day after to change it back! So for $660 and the time it costs me being away from work etc its just not worth it.
I ask the guys at power torque , who did all the work on it and build supercharged engines all the time what they recommend and RP 10/40 with a cooler and its fine for the odd track day.

Its cheaper than an engine build. And if your only doing occasional days its worth it, but if you dont drive it so hard dont worry about it.
Just remember even built engines can fail.

Ok so time for an update, after over 2 years of 420RWKW of good times the stock internals have said "enough". The ute wasn't running right and a compression test has revealed 2 cylinders were way down. So it was pull it apart time to see what the problem was and found the culprits.
http://s106.photobucket.com/user/gjohnson_04/media/Brokenring_zpse18e727d.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2
Broken rings.
So as I was always informed that pushing these motors to these sort of power levels was stretching the limits of stock internals its a good time to build the motor properly.
Was also noticed that all the bores had uneven wear marks in them and that the cylinders were actually slightly out of round (apparently quite common in stock motors). So the ring seal was never really good from factory.
http://s106.photobucket.com/user/gjohnson_04/media/cylinder1_zps173047f6.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0
http://s106.photobucket.com/user/gjohnson_04/media/cylinder2_zps428c5834.jpg.html?sort=3&o=1
So whilst its all pulled apart its time to do it properly. New set up will include rebore 5 thou over, Forged pistons and rods, compression lowered to 9.5 to 1, new main and big end bearings, hi vol oil pump, double row timing chain, roller lifters, push rods, new cam, springs, full engine gaskets, ARP head bolts. All machined and balanced. Even sending the blower back to Harrop for a freshen up of seals etc.
Will post pics of the build as I get them.
Cheers Greg.

Needed another set of tyres and seeing as powercruise coming up soon thought I'd get some cheap rims with cheap tyres to match. Now no risk of damage to the pentagons whilst "having fun" on the track. Good old Advanti tourers, I know they are common but they're cheap, they clear the brakes and have staggered fitment for wider rear rubber.
