HI Everyone. Im sure some of this has been asked before. I did do a search but I did not find all the info I was looking for.
I'm considering a VY / VZ SS Crewman.
First up can someone confirm that you can use Baby and booster seats in the rear seats of the Crewman.
Secondly I have heard that because of the Diff ratio in the Crewman they use a lot more fuel than a normal SS ute. I currently have a VE SS and thats fine on fuel, so thats what I'm comparing it to. I'd prefer a 6 speed manual but most around are the 4 speed auto's. I have driven a V6 wagon that seemed to rev very low at 110kms and therefor fine on fuel, but do the Crewman sit a lot higher at 100kms because of the Diff ratio in the 4 speed auto?
How does the performance drop going back to the 5.7L? Is it a big difference because again I'm comparing it to the VE SS 6L which is just such a great engine.
Lastly, any useful tips on them or things to watch for?
Thanks.
mine has car seat anchor points behind every seat in the rear, they are a bit sluggish but the usual goodies will wake it up, mine does 1400 rpm at 100kmh and would do mid 9L/100 100% stock on a highway drive, now its got full zorst, otr and tuned it does mid to high 8L/100km and can actually use 6th gear to climb over ants and stones at 100kmh, stock it was useless on any sort of hill and even a 6x4 trailer on a windy day it wouldnt hold 6th gear

I have a SSZ Crewman, it's one damn heavy car, thats why it uses so much fuel, but as said get it on the highway and its fine. Mine has extractors and exhaust, and would be the loudest and slowest LS1 around.
They run the same diff as a late model Ford (being live axle), these diffs like to make shitloads of noise (mine is really good for noise and backlash, it has chewed through the LSD once though) but are pretty strong, the stock brakes are crap for such a heavy car, mine stops ok because it has the bigger rotors and calipers up front and I have spent some dollars on DBA rotors and QFM pads.
My missus is 8 weeks pregnant so I have to buy a seat and make sure it fits. As said the anchor points are there but there isnt a shitload of room

hi mate ..... a good friend of mine just sold his
luved the car but a couple of things that made him end up selling it was
1. used alot of fuel ( that might just be his model )
2. the main problem you might not have thought of , they are alot longer than
normal vehicles , so fitting it in your carport and if you have a roll-a-door the
door doesnt close ( ute sticks out ) :1peek:
we were going to buy one for my wife , but not being able to fit in our carport stopped us ....
ozy
Get a tune and you should be getting 10's on the highway .
Nothing wrong with the 5.7 , but if ya can , get the 6 litre .

Mate - I've got a 6l VZ SS Thunder Crewman and it has been a great dual purpose car but I wouldn't even dream of putting baby seats in the back unless you & your missus are 5ft tall.
The rear seat leg room is minimal enough with small kids - booster seats would probably be OK though. Once kids get to about 7 or 8 years old even they will hate being in the back of it.
If it is going to be your only car it will be a struggle.
As a second car they are great.
Mines stock as a rock apart from 4.11's which give it more down low but it revs a bit on the freeway.
It sits on about 16-17 lp100 but I drive it pretty hard too.
