View Full Version : Sam's New Street Clutch

Plan B
22-07-2003, 09:01 PM
With the increasing desire for the very tractable 500 fwhp packages coming out of Sam’s lately. Tom, has been busy designing a daily driver clutch solution. This one fits the bill quite nicely.

It has an organic or rag type clutch plate with a larger surface area than standard. The pressure plate also has an increased clamping force over the standard unit. This style of clutch has the ability to roll off from the line with-out clutch shudder and careful selection of revs (just like standard), yet it has the grip to harness all that power in some seriously heavy cars.

Best part, for Forum Members;

Flywheel, Clutch & Pressure Plate complete for only______$946.00

I reckon it would be perfect for pulling your boat out. It's real smooth and controllable to use. Peddle pressure is slightly firmer but hardly noticeable. The action feels much like a standard new unit, ie; it doesn’t just bite an inch from the floor and you have plenty of range for slippage prior to full clamp. On the boat ramp…. Just what you need if you have a traction problem.

Sure you can R&D it..... You may have to join the que though, 7 have been sold since last Thursday. ;)

Does anyone know how this clutch compares to the Starr product or even the one that Street Tuna fitted to his SS? - driveability, price etc.

Craig

Driveability is perfect and very traffic friendly in terms of rolling off the line etc.. And it isn't very heavy

$275 including GST. Although it's cheaper to do whilst the engine is out. ;)

Pete ... sounds a treat.

Can not imagine a better testing ride than yours for the responce and durablity of the clutch. On the next clutch for me, should be finding more info out.

Seems the pwr levels are going through the roof in the LS1's, thus the importance to these type of developements.

Pete, is Sam still doing these clutch packages??

Can you email me the pics that you had in the first post of the clutch package compared to the stock one....the pics don't seem to work anymore.

Is it an aftermarket flywheel or a stock one that has been machined??

Cheers

Mat

Thanks Craig. The pics got lost in the website move thing I think.

Yep, as far as I know Mat, this system is still a happening thing. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. There are other packages available with lighter fly wheels and different clutch plates/pressure plates etc. All the guys are back with a few more on Monday the 19th Jan, so you’re best off talking to Tom directly on this thing. It’s his puppy.

I need to pick one of these up maybe tommorrow, does Sam still have these around??
Price still the same?

Also whats the chances of Sam loaning me his powerstear puller, once the box is fitted (with one of his clutches) I'll be putting my blower on and sending my car to him to get it tuned and manual program put in.
