my housemate had them on his cammed up vy ss ute, we didnt do a dedcible test but when they were closed it sounded just as quiet as a standard exhaust system, however after a week of having them on (twin system) he took them off because even when they were fully open it had destroyed the nice note he had and they sounded like crap

just curious would having these effect the 5 gases test when closed and making it easier to pass then normal mufflers.

These systems wont help with the 5 gases test then just make the exhaust path thru the muffler long making it quieter. The cats and tune are what make or break the 5 gases test

These things are help you to go under the radar IF you remember to push the button before you see the HWP. If the HWP pull you over and IF they have hald a brain they will see the varex branded tips, by the way great marketing XFORCE. Even a dim witted HWP officer will know these mufflers are designed to defeat a noise test and as far as I can see are not ADR compliant. As a result the Db recorded on the quiet setting is irrelevant. IF you are caught you will be required to run the test on loud and guess what you are unlikely to pass. If going under the radar is what you are after then OK but dont get annoyed if you spend the coin an get caught out.

Is it possible to turn the tips upside so the varex sign is not seen??

Funny you should say that, my Twin 3 inch X-Force was delivered with the tips welded on upside down (X-Force stamped on the bottom).

Yeah well I just figured it would solve the whole "cops finding out" problem. But it may not be that easy.. I'm just suggesting.
I guess you got lucky mate

i ended up removing the twin tips on my varex mufflers for the reason you could see the flap inside moving and replaced it with twin dumpies facing the ground... Sounded alot meaner when open as it was resonating off the ground and when closed the cops couldnt tell at all.

Had 3" xforce with varex closed and Mrs got nabbed by set=up on side of road. Just sent a letter in the mail to have tested.Failed miserably. I think 97 db. Was nothing I'm aware of to quieten down to legal requirement.(other than changing rear muffler to a pea shooter which I did to pass test) Spoke to several shops about using blockage material and all said they don't work. One exhaust place refused to work on the xforce as he said it will not pass the test and I will be pestering him. Have 4 into 1 defillipo and high flow cats. Still searching for solution but I think it might be a 2.5 system cheers Brian

hi all, just wondering if anyone knows what would be louder and also be better performance, i hav a Ve SSV ute with Big cam and a full xforce 3 inch system and was thinking about changing the normal xforce rear mufflers to varex one's, and was just wondering if anyone knew if the varex would be louder due to the straight through design and also if there was any performance gain or lose due to valve etc.
thanks

I'm pretty sure the normal xforce rear mufflers are straight through in design - I use to have them on the clubby. I don't think the varex type would be louder. The straight through design mufflers still have perforated cores. It's not like a straight 2.5" pipe.

The solution is easy KPM 2.5"! Better quality, better sounding!

thanks mate yh was looking at getting some straight pipes made up or cut outs put in for the drags, but just thought i would ask if varex was like a straight pipe, cause alot of ppl think im insane wanting it louder lol, thanks heaps if u type in "ve ssv cam" on youtube you will see my white ute(mat254) up there and here the exhaust as is.
thanks

Just had a look. Yeah, it's pretty loud already - definitely defect territory :) tried unbolting the rear mufflers to hear what it sounds like? I got some straight pipes make for $100. Not super loud. I used an iphone app to measure the idle sound of a stock system with straight pipe rears, it's about 85db.

From my understanding and speaking to exhaust shops any dual 3" wouldnt pass EPA.

I agree, at least any half decent sounding system not muffled to the point of "extinction". :D
