Depends on the extent of your "a bit over the limit" comment, but I expect you'll see a letter in the mail if it's as much as I think you mean...:bawl:

I don't think the cameras are set up to take on-coming traffic. It would mean that the camera could detect a speeding vehicle in on coming traffic and the photo could be obscured by a vehicle closer to the camera traveling in the opposite direction.

I got pinged in the mexican state, saw the flash, from a 4wd on the other side of the road. Middle of nowhere...country road.
7km/h over the limit. Unblemished driiving record for 27 years and a nice apologetic letter resulted in a warning...no $$$ nor demerits.

7km over.... That's not nice.
I'm not convinced the camera cars in NSW are able to do this. I suppose it also depends on how many lane road he was traveling.
Some fixed cameras in NSW only get one way.

i've been done like that before, damn thing was parked on the other side of a 6 lane road (facing me)at about 3am on my way to work, and it got me.

Quite handy to check this list.

You will see streets that you travel on everyday and some you never travel on. I always consult this list prior to any trip I do over 100ks.

How could you! Leaving distraught grannies and crying children in your wake! Racing around a whole 3, or god forbid 7 KMH faster.... That stuff calls for serious prison time. :)
Reminds me of the whole lewis hamilton thing. What can we do to get these clowns of politicians out of a job.
I have only seen one of the mobile cameras so far, it was on the hume highway, sitting on the other side of a rise hidden. Good thing I was not speeding or I would have killed the poor operator and all baby lambs within 100,000kms.

Lots of unmarked Speed Cameras in QLD. They can be set to get both too and away on mutipul lane roads, but generally are only one way on multi lane roads.
We have all sorts of unmaked, unsigned ones at the moment. The one that annoys is the white Rodeo dual cab with an Orange Council light on the middle of the roof.
Also Black Navara Dual cab plus many others. If there is a car stopped by the side of the road in an unusual spot then chances are it is a speed camera.

Hi HSVREDSLED,
Sorry mate your story sounds like a CROCK to me. I've been listening to the pollies and they tell me that SPEED KILLS. You're still alive aren't you? Somebody must be telling porkies. What did Mr Webber say? The Nanny State?
How many pollies have country retreats or other reasons to drive on our crap rural roads that are totally unsafe over 100 km/h? And what speed do they do when they need to overtake a truck? It's my guess that they do not adhere to the speed limit during such an exercise. Is this an exception to their "there's no such thing as safe speeding" rule? You mean to say they don't disappear into a black hole at 101 km/h?

Last I heard that before the election in NSW the tollerance was going to be enforced at 3 kph. Our new Premier has given the word via the Roads Minister that this is too low and that the tollerance is to be lifted - I do not know what to?
In NSW redlight cameras will get a picture of the car from the front, I have seen a photo in relation to a penalty notice. As far as I know the fixed camera's take the photo showing the rear of the car.

They are still very sneaky with these mobile units in NSW. There is often one on the Pacific Hwy north of Newcastle. Lately they have been hiding it behind the concrete barriers and just in front of the RTA heavy vehicle station office so you cant see it until you hit it. Not sure if I got done first time but it is certainly sneaky. You can't even see the stickers on the side so I would be suprised if it is a compliant location. It must have got hundreds over the past fortnight.
Not sure if these units get you from front on or from the back. Certainly have something facing you as you come towards them. Does anyone know how far you have to slow down before passing? I am always up the highway with cruise set 10km over but assume you would still get done by one of these setups?

Probably safer doing 10% over...not 10 kms over. Especially in a 60 zone. Even safer doing 0% over. Dont want to sound like a wowser, but speeding these days are over...unless you want your license gone.

Some fixed cameras in NSW can take your photo in both directions, There is one on McAffery drive in Newcastle which I know from experience takes photos of oncoming traffic. It has an orange coloured lense, not sure if that means anything but its the only one I've seen like it.

I don't mean to be rude but FIXED speed cameras - really??!???!!!
Don't you get three warnings before you get to them with what speed to do as you past through them on big signs?
And there are giant poles with flashes and boxes on the top?
And there are lines all over the road showing that something is going on?
Talk about simple to connect the dots...
Only Camry drivers would get done. :jester:

Yep you're right, but the RTA are cunning B*@tards. Been going past this camera every day for years on my way to work, never taken my photo before then one day they install a new camera which takes photos in both direction and got me.
And I was driving a Transit van not a Camry, up hill, and only 7kmh over dammit.

The only fixed cameras we have are red light cameras and they are slowly migrating them to be speed cameras as well, so no more gunning it through yellow to beat the red light camera, even on green they will get you.
We've had hidden multinova cameras here for years so you never looked at the road ahead but off to the side looking for the little sign they had out a hundred or so meters ahead...
Lately they have introduced rear facing cameras that can do multiple lanes. These things are truly hidden and give the driver a lovely surprise in the mail a couple of weeks later.
We have a 5kph limit.

Yes and this in itself is confusing. You are often left wondering what the limit is as it often changes from 100 to 110 and back again. You have sections near Port Macquarie which are getting quite old and degraded yet they are 110 while the new sections south are 100. It should be consistent wherever possible now - either one limit or the other.

Why are the better roads lower speed limit, they are identical design to the older degraded sections but better for a higher speeds. better surface and safety features.

i think instead of turning it off completely you are better off being aware of your surroundings. where i used to live 99% of time i had to reverse onto mt gravatt-capalaba rd (bris) just after a crest in the rd it was a 70k section but most people do well above and a million trucks used it so i always turned trac off as it was scary when ya floored it, car dies & truck up ya arse lol

mmm.... have been seriously considering buying a mate's Duccati 996. Mint condition and less than 15,000km. Mate says he doesn't get a chance to ride it so he's seling it cheap.
If I get it my concern is that I'll be foot falcon in a matter of days. Seriously how do motor bike riders keep their license (let alone thier lives)?
BTW - anyone driving between Brisbane and the sunshine coast, there are now 3 fixed cameras between Burpengary and Caloundra turnoff. Two covert with no signs and the obvious one with signs on approach. They are getting real sneaky now - putting covert mobile units a couple of kms after the fixed ones.
Does anyone know if the cameras on the Logan overpass (north bound) on the M1 are speed cameras? No signs. No way of knowing they are there unless it's too late.
The road is becoming less and less the place for a high performance vehicle.

Jarhead. The two Fixed Cameras with no signs are actually a new Point to point cameras. I think they are something like 13kms apart and don't issue fine if over at the first one, but measure your average speed between the two. If your average is over you get a fine.
Note you can exit just before the first one and straight back on so no average. I notice some vehicles including trucks already doing this.
Not sure how it works as it certainly isn't using a flash for every car. Would be interested to here how it exactly works and if they have some infa red to detect number plates at night

Just a quick note. The camera at the northern end of the distance/time system is also a stand-alone fixed speed camera. So, if you exceed the posted limit by 10 or more km/h passing that camera you can expect to be booked.
The distance/time system used ANPR technology to read plates of vehicles passing the two sites and determining the time between passings.
The idea of the second one also being a fixed static camera seems to be to get those who avoid the first one and think they can speed on regardless.

09-05-2011, 10:32 PM
Damn - I must be very lucky. I slow down for both cameras but I sit on 120km/h everywhere else. I suppose the the time it takes to get to 120km and then the early slow down before camera 2 means the average would be high teens. I wonder what the tolerance is?
I do this trip at least once or twice a week and never been pinged before. I have noticed mobile covert cameras just after the second camera before the Caloundra turn off.
