Hey Guys,
Ive been looking for a new ute, currently got an FG XR6 but am unhappy with all the problems ive had with it, and the general comfort. Looked at a VEII SV6 or SS and feel much more at home, better seating, dual zone standard etc / colour screen, and some extra gadgets. SV6 goes okay, but would ofcourse prefer the SS as I am a V8 man.
Price is the biggest issue at this poinit.. SV6 34 kay, SS 38 kay.. For 34 kay I can buy an XR6 Turbo ute but then I have to remind myself why im selling the current XR6..
Is 34 kay for an SV6 / 38 kay for an SS good value? It seems both are 2010 plate cars, 2011 is a grand more?
Any help much appreciated.

............dual zone standard etc
Is dual zone new for SII on SV6 and SS as in SI it was only in SSV? Whatever the advertised price is you should be able to beat that by a fair bit if you are a good negotiator, particularly on 2010 models almost into the fourth month of 2011 and especially near the end of the sales month. If you find the right dealer/salesman they'll almost give it away. :D

There would be very minimal if any difference between the 10' plate & 11' models(i'd look for common issues in the series 2 like the IQ system & make sure its 100% before you take delivery), as wonky said you'll be able to score an 10 model for a ripper price.
I wont be the only one to say this on a V8 forum but for 4k extra the SS is worth every cent over the SV6. Especially when you are coming from the Superior 6 in the FG the SV6 motor would frustrate you.

I should mention my current XR6 is only an N/A.. its a work car so an SV6 should be about on par for power, even if its a bit down on torque.
The SS would be obvious option but then again 4 grand more will get me an SS V..
Yes VEII has dual zone standard across the range I believe, or atleast SV6 up!
$34,000 sounds expensive for an SV6 when the XR6 is only $29,990 but you do get some extras in the SV6 like 18's, dual zone and curtain bags.
If its a work car it would be leased wouldn't it? If so 4k over a lease term is fark all. SSV all the way

Yes, but I already have 1 V8!!!
Its not only lease costs but you have extra fuel, rego etc etc.. So while its only 4 kay on paper, it soon adds up over time.
The SS is my pick because it doesnt look too over the top, you drive something too fancy and clients think youre charging them too much! But it will get up and go, althought the 260 kw AFM is a let down compared to the old 270 kw 6.0 Litre VE we had.
I think ill wait for VEII to get a bit cheaper, last year you could buy VE1 SSV's for like 37 kay up here in QLD.. I shoulda grabbed one of those.

You notice that drop in torque considerably between the SV6 and the XR6 (both A6). I'll agree with the others get the V8 if money can stretch. Personally I had an SV6 hire car yesterday that reminded me of the shortfalls of that car over the FG XR6 I've been driving the rest of this week (it was a series 1 SIDI though). If you can't stretch the cash on a new one get a used S1 SSV, yes you have a V8 already, but lets be realistic, its a rubbish one.
If it has to be new and a V6 get the 2010. The software updates should be applied anyway. I'd get an XR6-T though for that engine alone.

My 315 GT would smash my old 6 litre calais, and that was a quicker car then the new AFM V8.. But lets not get into a Ford vs. Holden bullshit session.
The cars a company car, don't want a second hand one on lease.

What do you get in an SSV other than leather and 19's? Better headlights? I I think the VEII SV6 is better in the interior with SS type seats and IQ audio plus climate air (compared to series 1 SV6), I prefer the old front bumper on series 1 though. Waiting for prices to come down, could be a long wait for something that won't happen.

I just stepped out of a tuned, CAI 6.0lt VE Calais V into a standard VEII SV6 sportwagon and I am very happy with what I got. It has enough power for me around Sydney and is fine on the freeway.
If you find an SV6 Series II you can afford I say go for it. The new interior is very nice and the SIDI with the additional power and nm is fine. And for those who say $4k diff over a lease is negligible just remember this is financed so it impacts monthly repayments and the residual. It adds up to a fair bit. That cost creeep is a trap for the weary.

My VEII SS ute has dual zone.
When my ute was last in for service they gave me the SV6 ute to drive... i don't remember if it had dual zone though (i didn't specifically look).
I imagine the SV6 would if the SS does.

I doubt it is dual zone, although the buttons are the same on both, the passenger adjuster just giggles full hot full cold.
