Maybe a small gain to be found. The exhaust will likely help it take some more timing advance and when the AFRs are zoned in again the car will probably give a noticeable gain in performance.

Now that you have opened up the cats it might also be worth going mafless. :)

And the fact you wont have the maf sensor anymore

You opened up your old cats because they were restrictive with the necks on the in and out of the cats being 2 inches, now they would be at least 2 1/2 inches so they would flow better. Your engine is like a big air pump which flows air in and out now with the restriction in the cats removed the maf would be restricting the intake side. You would notice a gain by removing it! You could go without an OTR but an OTR will give you a bigger gain in my opinion. :)

yep makes sense cheers.. would i have to fork out the cost of a mafless tune (eg. $1200) or can they tweak the maf tune?

$1200 for a mafless tune?
You are kidding?
If your tuner you used wanted to charge me that I would go elsewhere.
Sponsors on the forum like Oztrack who posted on here before and get a mail order for less than half that much and I can assure you some of these guys who really know their stuff with LS1 tuning like Oztrack will do you a mail order with better results than most of the custom tuners around. :goodjob:

EDIT... A decent tuner will touch up or upgrade a tune he has done for a decent price!

Its a whole new tune as they gotta set up the ecm to work without the maf

Don't be worried about using mail order tunes for std or slightly modified LS engines as most of the guys doing them know their stuff.
I ran an Oztrack basic mafless tune with OTR and opened exhausts but after i fitted a few extra bolt ons I decided to fork out a little extra for a dyno tune again by Oztrack.
The first run on the dyno with the basic mafless tune netted 284rwkw and after about 30mins and a quite a few pulls on the dyno the final figure was 289rwkw.
What I'm pointing out here is not the actual rwkw but the difference between the Oztrack basic tune and his dyno tune which goes to show how good his basic tunes are in the first place.
