No idea about prices, but have you considered a one way plane ticket then dive it home yourself, or possibly a car broker to pay a fee to and they will deliver it to you.

Good luck.

I have used Toll from Canberra to Adelaide when sending my 77 LX SS. $450 from door to door with no battery in non-running condition.

I have driven the route numerous times and it will cost you about $200 in food, petrol and accomodation, and take about 18 hours.

Sydeny to Melb car freight is about $275 so you would presume Sydney to Adelaide would be about $350-$400.

Thanks for all your input guys, really helpful. I was thinking along the lines of using Toll or Adelaide Car Express and was looking for feedback on their experience.

Dad has advised me to just put it on a truck and get it done that way as it would be easier and hopefully more safer without the car getting damaged.

You are right I would have to factor in Petrol, Food and accommodation, its a nice drive but I currently just dont have the time or spare cash for a road trip.

Team Illucid what do you mean by "door to door with no battery in non-running condition"

As I have never done this I am abit blazzae about it. Did you take the battery out the car so they couldnt drive it/hoon in it?

What are the normal things in what you would do in order to protect your car? Just a small amount of fuel to get it on and off the truck? Any protection needed to the seats or front of the car? How would you know they have played or taken anything from out the car, as I am buying froma dealer in Sydney.

What I mean is they picked it up from my door, in non running condition (car had no battery, blown engine, no fuel in the tank) ... and dropped it off in my garage in Adelaide.

Have you even looked at the car you are buying - pictures or video clips so you know if there is anything missing?

I have moved this particluar Torana three times - once from QLD to Canberra, then from Canberra to Adelaide lastly from Adelaide back to Canberra.

Never had any problems, no stone chips, no marks, clean and as picked up.

I used a mob called 'moving cars' to get my calais from newcastle to adelaide, they picked it up from a street in newcastle and brought it down to the depot at gillman where l picked it up. Cost $495 but saved me a heap of hassles, l booked and paid for it on a wednesday and it was here friday morning. Only downside is they wont let you put personal items in the car - the previous owner had all the OEM gear to go with the sale so had to post them down seperately.

Also the car generally has to be in a driveable condition (for ease of loading etc).

Nick thansk for your help have left a message with Cameron to call me. Illucid, who did you use to move your car.

Are most of them open trailers as my mine gripe is if it is sitting on the top right above the cabin at the front, some trailers dont have a bug deflector and its gonna cop all the crap.........

Hi mate, i work for toll car carrying as a casual driver. The only problem with front top is bugs. I have seen more damages done when they are loaded on decks that have moveable decks above them and the deck behind drive wheels.
Just ensure that the pre check is done correctly and you are happy with what is written on it and then check its condition when you pick it up.
If you pick it up from the depot at dry creek it will be cheaper than getting home delivery.
The main areas to check for damage are the bottom of front spoiler and the drivers door. Also check side skirts just in case they scratch them while doing ratchet straps up.

East coast car carriers $340 Sydney to Melbourne insured door to door

I'd fly and drive it.

When i got a car brought fully insured from Sydney to Perth the gorilla's who load and unload the vehicle managed to break my gearbox and bend the steel rear bar. When it came to making a claim, they were all happy to fill out the paperwork and got the (independent) insurance assessor out who said "it is clearly their fault" but even a month after the claim they still hadn't contacted me or returned my calls and whenever i rang the receptionist said the manager was out of the office.

Name drop, CEVA Logistics. Useless bastards.

Added, thanks for that little name drop. The dealer I bought my CV8Z from reckons he uses them all the time cos he has prestigous cars and says he can get a good corporate rate for me. But im abit 50/50 on the whole idea.....

The dealer got back to me today and says he got a quote from CEVA as they use them all the time. To do door to door from NSW to SA he has quoted me $898 and thats in a enclosed trailer. So I rang the company and asked how long from Sydney to Adelaide? oh well cos we have delays at the moment it will take 9-10 days which means no car until after easter and would be sitting in their holding yard exposed to god knows what :flipoff:

So I found another company based here in Adelaide at Holden Hill Interstate Car Carriers, he has quoted me $797 saying that it will be in a enclosed trailer as he assures me 99.9% pick up from the dealer and drop off at their depot in Wingfield. He said all he needs is 48hrs notice to pick up the car and it will be here in Adelaide in 4 days.

anyone ever heard of these blokes or ever used them?

Last resort is to put it on the Indian Pacific which only runs on Wednesdays taking it only 24hrs to rech Adelaide, but I gotta some how get it from the dealer to the train station.
