ive got one, no lsd chatter and it works fine. no noise, but i think it actualkly gives more traction. but flair the clutch a little and around you go...

irite cool as ive got quote for 1050 i give them the diff is that about right?
Ran variations of them in the last car, LOVE the things, no push on slow corners, a bit disconcerting at first due to the way they work, the car doesn't slide down the camber of the road like an LSD+lots of power so there's no real sensation of wheelspin with the car tracking straight.
The 1st Torsen I ran was ok till you lifted an inside wheel in a corner then it would lose all drive as they torque bias so 40% of 0 is 0.....
The TrueTrac for the 9" gets around this with a simple preload pack, not sure if the Commodore TT's use this or not but my 9" one was far too tight so I modded it to work with a lot less preload.
I'll be putting one in both of my CrossTracs then see if I can source the BMW version for the fornt Diffs in each car.

Unfortunately I have to disagree with everyones comments here! For me, the "Tru Trac" was crap! I snapped the hemisphere in half so if you are going to be pushing big power, then I would stay away from them! Since the 9" with the Detroit Locker (below) and Richmond Gears it handles the HP without a problem

Considering you were over the specified power limit of the eaton it's no wonder it broke.

Hrmm, bugger. That is more than the Eaton is 'rated' to handle, but mines still holding up at more power than that. You've got me worried it might explode any day now :1peek:

Broke?? lol..... it clean snapped in half! Never seen anything like it before!
As said originally, if you are pushing high HP then the "Tru Trac" is not your option.

The thing is, I wasn't doing a burnout when she let go! We were at Powercuise and hammering down the main straight and she snapped at around 200km/h! I now run 500rwkw and the 9" with the Locker works a treat!!

I thought you split the diff technics billet housing Scotty with the Detroit locker in it ? Same as the one I had.
I am pushing 825 rwkw through a tru trac , so far so good.

Lets be fair though, perhaps you should say "if you are pushing high HP then the EATON "Tru Trac" is not your option."
There is a reason Harrop make a much stronger version.

Yes mate, did that to but 1st was the Eaton Tru Trac, then bought the 9" (with a supposid Locker in it) and ended up being a standard LSD!
The lesson learnt from that was never buy anything "2nd hand"!!
Running 825rwkw you are REALLY pushing that Tru Trac to its limits dude!

I would expect them to break on a main straight like that rather than doing a burnout. Onces the wheels are spinning (burnout) there is much less force going through the diff.
At high speed like that you would be making peak power and the wheels would be gripping, so the driveline would be under maximum pressure.
Also, as mentioned, you had the cheaper eaton centre. To be honest if you built a 425rwkw/500rwkw engine then skimped out on the diff (to save a few dollars) then you deserve to have it break. You knew what the limit of the eaton unit was, dont bitch that it broke when you went waaaay over the maximum specified power.
To the OP, the Harrop Trutrac is rated to 500rwkw. Unless your pushing more than that (doesn't sound like it) then its a good investment.

Just shows how well the Harrop one is made compared to the cheaper Eaton unit.
There are many similar stories around of guys running 600rwkw+ on harrop units without breaking them. In fact i havnt heard of a broken harrop trutrac (excluding the first production batch which had a design flaw).

Hey mate,
Not bitching at all as was steered to the Eaton by my mechanic! Just saying if you're pushing high HP then probably not the right one to go for but I think Dave (Blown540) is very lucky thus far to not have his blow running 825rwkw!!

I don't think he was bitching at all  Fair call he was running more power than it was rated for but there are a lot of people on here doing the same with the Eaton and saying it's fine. As it so happens, they can break with less power than others have.

Wasnt trying to start a shit fight about tru trac, just pointing out how strong the harrops are in my humble opinion, you wont be sorry if you get one, two even black lines ftw.

I was talking to a guy at a company called Just Differentials in Washington, and he recommended the Auburn LSD over the Truetrac, for my Ford 9.75'' axle. He sells both, so not sure if any of you have tried an Auburn. Sick of the single spinner though.

Would you guys recommend this as a good mod for a slightly modded 6.0L?
Would you guys recommend this as a good mod for a slightly modded 6.0L?
It's a "good mod" for every car ever made modded or not, they're a great diff with none of the downsides of a traditional LSD, i.e. no trailing throttle understeer, and they don't work for 6 months then wear out and go peg leg.

can someone explain the difference on the road between the standard diff (lsd) and a trutrak. Is there more grip?

That is the intention, but 'on the road' it wouldn't be an issue, as the slightest loss of traction is a crime worse than murder.
I find it awesome. It might be placebo but it feels easier to turn into a corner hard off throttle with it. My theory is the factory limited slip diff provides a little restriction motivating the car to keep going straight, but the Truetrac pretty well free-wheels off throttle.
