Hard cover mods to fit the dog

Hello,
Had a search and couldn't find anything. Has anyone modified their hard cover so that their dog could sit up the front? I was thinking about cutting out a section and putting a hinge on it so I could fold it back when he is in and then close it when he is not.

Any ideas?????

Good ideas please. (taking it off is not a good idea)
