Ok to cut a long story short,
I bought some "speedy inferno rims" as I was told by quite a few ppl at the drags that they fit and they had them on......
Now I just tried to trial fit them as Im going to the drags on wednesday and they are hard up on the brake calliper :soap::soap:
Now none of these ppl said anything about them not fitting straight from the shop, but im starting to wonder if the had like a 5-10mm spacer on the hub before the rim went on??????
Am i missing something?Rims are 18x8, or should they be 18x9??dont know if that would make a difference....
Any one here use the speedy inferno rim on the rear????
I dont have much time to sort it out :(
Ill put some photos up in a minute

Not sure Kev but bring them over tomoz if ya want and we can see what we can do ok :):) and if they dont at anychance just leave them here and I will find a use for them :)
I can always fit a stock set of rear callipers for ya for the drags and that will solve the prob ok :)

Clearence from the spoke to caliper,
the spoke touches the calliper, you can see the paint it chipped off, I can barely turn the wheel when bolted tight..???
Got me stumped???

I have never heard of 18" infernos fitting a VE hsv, you sure they weren't thinking of something else?
Might fit with spacers...

I had a set of speedy infernos on a clubbie a couple of years ago but they were 19's not 18's.

Kev bring them over we shall see what we can get sorted ok :):)
I will make a call and get a couple of sets of spacers ordered in different widths on wed so you can use them but come over we might not need them ;)

By the look of it I don't think shims are going to help. The inside of those style rims looks too small a diameter for hsv brakes, 19's might fit.

drew, I'd bring it over but im working monday and tuesday......
fuuuuk, what a pain in the arss, i was looking forward to floggin them,
does any one know for DEFINET any other 18" rims that fit??? (name and size)
Cos its my mates dads shop he'll prob let me take them back and swap them as they have'nt been used yet.
so if I can find an alternative it might be ok, I can ring up wed morning and get them in for the arvo..
just my luck that monday and tuesday are pub holidays too :(

I reckon if I had about a 5mm spacer, the spokes would miss the side of the calliper
and it has about 5mm on the dish part already, so thats not a problem,
Its just spoke to calliper issue??

Do standard VESS rims fit???? probably not :(
Doesn't look like they would :(
No they won't :(

OK fair enough if it's spoke to caliper problem I think it maybe to do with the CP size of the rim . eg 19x8 43CP or 48CP. This CP size denotes were the bolt on centre is in relation to the width of the wheel. It's the offsett in mm from the center of the wheel and this changes where the wheel sits when you bolt them on. The offset is usually marked on the inside of the wheel on the back. You can get different offsets in the same after market wheel but they look nearly same before you put them on but one may have a bigger dish than the other. But it sounds like your mate can help you so I hope you get it sorted soon.

How bigger spacer could U use safely with out it fukn witht the stud???
5-8mm spacers, u know the ones that slip overs the studs with the multi fit holes?
http://www.a1parts.com.au/media/catalog/product/cache/7/small_image/135x/fdc02b258682d846fa0065dc4c95e795/W/S/WS815-2-0.jpg
Its only gonna be for the drags, then they'll be straight off...
But I wouldnt wonna use spacers if the studs can snap off?
anyone used them before?
PS, just looked at the rim, there, 18x8, ET 45.

As stated in the Thread in the Drag forums the other rim i have seen fitted but havent tried is the http://www.speedywheels.com.au/images/zoom/cobalt-black.htm (only ever seen them on 1 car , and unsure if spacers or anything else was needed)
I know it may sound silly but have you tried both rims you were supplied in case one of them was the wrong offset from Speedy wheels??
Also did you get the 18x8's or 18x9's?? as both have different offsets which would cause the problem you are having
18x8.0
ET45
18x9.0
ET38
Which i believe means the 18x9 bolts 7mm closer to the centre of the hub than the 18x8 (i think not 100%)
^^^Ignore all that you beat me too it^^^^

I def seen them boys from Formula Tech with them on, I even looked at them cos they had 18" et semi slicks on (micky thompsons)
maybe they had spacers that I did'nt see cos it was at night..?
but there was more than 2-3 VE clubby's with them on at the plex in the formula tech lane..!!

I know, and until recently the inferno's are the only rim that i have ever seen in 18" fit over the HSV brakes
Saw a Walkinshaw maloo with http://www.speedywheels.com.au/images/zoom/cobalt-black.htm last time i was down at the motorplex, but then the caliper had walkinshaw written on it not HSV but (i assumed they are the same caliper but may be wrong) but looking at the two rims and there offset the Colbalt has 3mm more offset (et45 vs et48) and the spokes are flat on the outside and dont 'bend' in towards the dish at all
PS:make sure you update this thread when you get something sorted so i know for future reference because it is probally just a matter of time before i will need some et drag radials

Kev I think spacers should be fine especially if you can get 3mm if you only need minimum clearance possibly 5mm would be ok :):)
but these are the rims I want for the VY

Ya reckon spacers will be ok at the drags though??
It's not like I'll be going easy on them??
Last thing I want is a wheel shooting off at half track,
How much clearance should be ok from the rim to the calliper

18x8.0

18x9.0

looks like you have the 18 x8 ET45 [Sometimes called CP45]
Those 18x9 ET 38 have about 6mm more wheel inside but about 19mm more wheel on the outside , which should be more than enough to clear the calipersfrom the spokes. So the ones you saw were probably 18x9's ET38.
Here's a link to calculate wheel offsets ,and shows the difference...
[ hope this has,n't been to boring or complicated ]
http://www.1010tires.com/wheeloffsetcalculator.asp
In saying all the above I think you can have say 2 different brands of wheels with same width and same ET [CP] but one might fit over calipers and one may not because of the shape of the spokes.

24-04-2011, 11:36 PM
yeah I see what ya saying, maybe they have the 18x9's....
I looked at that calculator, and beeing the same rim im thinking I need the 18x9's,
Current wheels specs- Width: 8 inches, offset:45
New wheel specs- Width: 9 inches, offset:38
Inner Clearance: 6mm less (the inside of the wheel to the strut housing)
Outer Position: EXTEND an extra 20mm (position of the outside edge of the wheel)
I already spoke to my mate (who's dad owns the shop) and he said they should be able to sort something out, even get me in the 18x9's by wednesday arvo....
Is that size (18x9,et38) a standard size that they can get straight away???

24-04-2011, 11:53 PM
I just took that size off the other post sorry i don't know off the shelf sizes . You've gotta make sure the 18x9's would fit under the guards too........ready to give up yet ...good luck .

lol, not yet mate, I just want some rims for wednesday :D
I see what they can do, and Ill also be going to auto one for some spacers, trial and error now.
As for tehm fitting with a different offset, I dont think it'd be a problem, I have standard suspension and it does'nt tuck tyre anyway.
Ill have another look tomorrow arvo once I pick up some spacers and do a trial fit AGAIN...... :)
fingers crossed a spacer will sort it, quick and ezy fix (aslong as its safe)

Got me fukt. Def seem ppl using the infernos at the drags, and they still had the Hsv brakes so them, so they didn't swap calipers..
Pitty I do to kw anyone with a 18x9 inferno in Perth hahaha
Anyone got a number for some one from formula tech, or are maybe friends with them??

This is off speedywheels web site for speedy inferno rims
SIZE
OFFSET STUD PATTERN
18x8.0
ET38 5x114.3
18x8.0
ET45 5x100 Subaru
18x8.0
ET45 5x120
18x9.0
ET38 5x114.3
18x9.0
ET38 5x120
19x8.5
ET38 5x114.3
19x8.5
ET45 5x120
19x9.5
ET38 5x114.3
19x9.5
ET38 5x120
These are the rim sizes and offsets, so I'm thinking I need the 18x9 et38, or the 18x9.5 et 38 to clear the side of the caliper
VYSHSV8
25-04-2011, 05:51 PM
Offset doesn't determine all the time the clearance on calipers as it depends on the position of the rim position as they might have different moulds similar to 2 piece/3 piece and just have the position slide to and frow aka offset, but the spoke design may never move
1BEAST2NV
25-04-2011, 08:59 PM
hmmm, interesting
I was hoping that the different offset would put the spoke away from the caliper a bit more.?
All i know is its become a pain in the arss, and to only have wednesday to try sort it out make s it harder as the drags are wed arvo....
Spacers are out of the question I think, been doing alot of reading and not liking what Ive read, too much strain on the studs, weaken the studs, snap studs at high speed etc, cos if I put spacers on the will be getting a flogging....and last thing i want is to end up in the wall or worse...

told him my problem and he said that the 18x8 et45's are the wrong ones.
he said they should of been 38's off the top off his head, but with out looking at the work computer cant be 100%,
so he's gonna sort it out first thing wednesday morning, ill keep it updated with the out come..

i posted in another thread, but here is a copy/paste of my results for the weekend.
i tried my 18x8 45 offset speedy inferno and it didnt clear the caliper in 2 spots on the front with the brembo's. Same again with the rears due to the larger rotor/caliper.
yet im positive i checked it on my brother's ve and it cleared the front. obviously not. lol
can you do me a favour when you pick up your new rims.
check that they clear the fronts brakes too.
Cheers

Hey mate I had a VE Maloo and now a VE Clubby that do track days in and went looking for 18's, I went through approx 5 rims that were meant to clear and didn't and done alot research including the inferno, the inside diameter of the rim also is too small and would need material removed. I sourced a set of speedy cobalt that clear the calipers with plenty of room all round, they come in silver or black with machine edge and looked good and worked well. I just sold a full set with new semi's on them will attatch a pic if can.

Also KOYA wheels have just released an 18" wheel called "BATHURST" that can be bought in many offsets and widths to suit the VE HSV.
