View Full Version : Where to buy a blower in the USA

I'm going over to america in july and thinking i might buy a blower for my VE HSV while i'm over there...
Considering Harrop sell the kits for $10-13k i was thinking with the dollar the way it is it might be worth getting one over there.
I'm looking for an EATON TVS 1900 type or maybe the 2300 to go on an LS3....
The only problem is i'm having trouble finding a place that does the kits..
The Pontiac G8 GXP came out with an LS3 so if i can get a kit for one of them it should fit mine...
Does anyone know where to get them, what they cost and will i have trouble bringing it back to OZ?
Thanks,gary

Try and locate a shop that deals with Edelbrock products. Pretty sure they have bolt on superchargers that will fit the HSV engines.
Good luck getting it back through Customs. I'm tipping they'll want their 5% Customs duty + 10% GST.

Good question, I've been looking for a blower in the U.S also (via the internet) to suit an L76.
Surely they are going to be cheaper even with customs and GST.
Gary, I will post up a link for you in two more posts.
OK I should be able to post a link next.

Gary,
Go to this link and up the top it will have "where to buy" For memory the best place I found in the USA was around $9000 fitted after a lot of searching.
The E Force is the same as the Walky 2300.
http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/misc/buy_online/buy_online-1.shtml
Now it says the moderator has to approve the Link, just as bad as the KGB
See if this works, Go to Edelbrock.com and then go to E Force superchargers ( same as Walky 2300) then look up the top of the page and click on where to buy.

do you still pay duty if it's made in the U.S.A. , I thought there was none thru the FTA .
freight is around $600.00 , and with the dollar hitting 109 , maggie might come quicker than i thought .

I'm looking at doing the same thing for my SSV if the price is right. By the looks of those links they can be had for about 7K + delivery etc..
I would be getting mine delivered obviously but interested to see how you go getting it yourself.

It's only duty free if you have a "Free trade declaration" from the supplier/manufacturer. Importers can get one as they deal directly with the manufacturer ie Edelbrock & they fill out the form.
If you buy a supercharger from a shop then you probably won't get one. If they are nice they coud always doll up something on their letterhead stating the product, model number etc & you might be able to get away with it. You'll still have to pay 10% GST as the dec only gets you out of paying the duty.
Cheers Matt
o.k. , that's how it works .
Someone here bought a jetski from the U.S. and because it had '' made in U.S.A. '' on it , he paid no duty ,
unless i've miss read it .

Or you could claim the parts are for a US built 4wd (no duty).
BTW if the parts have made in USA labelled/stamped they will qualify for FTA, ie no 5% duty

I had a look at that and it only lists them for the L76 or the 6.2Ltr, why none for a L98?

There is a couple of tariff concessions (made when no local manufacturers-very specific though) for jet skis so it probably got imported under that rather than the made in USA.
A free trade dec or a product that simply states "Made in USA" is technically not good enough in the eyes of Customs for duty free status. Although it wouldn't surprise me if half arsed Customs Brokers let them pass.
Some products still aren't duty free even if they have a free trade dec until later this year or next year or 2015 like articles of clothing, shoes etc as there are still local manufacturers.
