View Full Version : United Premium98???

G'day all. I did a bit of google on here and throughout the wider google realm and there isn't a lot about this grade of fuel.
I did read one member stating (in another fuel thread) that the United fuel in Victoria comes via the Mobil refinery.
The United website states the Premium98 contains no ethanol - they obviously have their Booost98 product for that market.
So, my questions are;
Does anyone run this United Premium98 and if so, how does it perform?
Does anyone on here know (or can confirm) the origin of this particular fuel.
I run the car on BP Ultimate98 (tuned on this fuel), but have used Mobil Synergy 8000 before and it was fine.
My conundrum is that the closest BP to me is 25km up the road, whereas a new(ish) United is in town and has the Premium98 at the bowser. I'm thinking of trying it for a few tanks - may even do some WB02 logging to see whether there is a difference.
Thoughts???
cheers

I use Ultimate 98 and V Power myself as it's most commonly available...
You know what I saw the other day at the Pt Cook United Service Station?
Not just Premium 98 but a large sign above it saying Premium 100!!
Now that's something I want to try, I'll give it a go in three weeks when I drive to SA and I'll let you know.

On a side note, they have removed the 100 octane pumps at United Pooraka (SA). When I rang United to ask why, they advised me that they cannot get Ethanol due to the shortage caused by QLD floods and that any Ethanol that is available is being used for food. They cannot confirm whether the 100 will be back in the future or not.

Macca....
I originally posted that the fuel comes from Mobil but since posting so long ago I have found a few issues.
United seem to have a lot of contamination issues. Before the last tune done to the vehicle I had been pretty much using exclusively 98 from United.
When the fuel filter was removed it was almost completely blocked with contaminents. (Glad it was changed before a full power run)....
Whether this was due to an individual station or not would require further research but so far I have had no issues with contamination from BP or Shell.
I would be careful when using there fuel. Whether it be from sub-standard tanks or allowing the tanks to run down to fairly low levels I will always be very careful in regards to fuel....

Ive never had an issue with using United fuels, whether its E85 or any of the other normal fuels. Give it a go Macca, let us know how you go with the logging. :goodjob:

Hmmm... Not sure I want to try it now, would the extra 2 octane really make a difference though?
It's interesting that they say the fuel came from Brisbane as when I lived in Perth I was told that other brands 98 Octane fuel couldn't be sold in Perth as the shipping degraded the octane number. BP have a refinery in Kwinana which is why BP Ultimate is available there - I expect that the refineries in Melbourne would supply the 100 Octane.

I have only run BP 98 in the WM, have had problems with bad fuel at United in previous cars. BP or Shell are definitely my pick. :)

United is one of the chains that tender for both local and imported fuels. ie. they buy what ever is the cheapest at that time. So the fuel you get today may be a totally different product in 2 weeks.

if its the waragul united servo you are talking about macca i know of a couple cars that had their engines destroyed from having water in there fuel. mind you this was back in the day that it opened, they were not modded v8s or nothing just plain v6 vt's and back then they were newish. i havnt been game enough to use their fuels since it opened but it possibly could be better

Well, I think my mind is now made up - stay away, stay FAR away.
I did read that United's facility in Hastings stocked domestic and internationally sourced fuels, which didn't engender great confidence.
BP Ultimate98 for me it is!
Thanks for all of the input.
cheers

I have only ever run BP Ultimate in my cars (unbiased of course before I started working for BP) with the occasional tank of Mobil 8000
You get what you pay for, its proven and a consistant performer
I know it is not readily available to everybody, but stick with what you know
Cheers,

Sometimes I find they run better on 95 then they do some 98 getting around here. I do not believe one brand is better then the other, aslong as the tanks are clean and it is filled regularly its all the same. Shell 95 was basically deleaded shell 100 and I used to make more power with that in my old TM 300 2 stroke race bike then BP ultimate.
