Hi guys, just wondering if anyone has replaced their standard VX/VY/VZ foggies with a better more acute spotlight or if it is possible?

Wether it is replacing the bulb, reflector of the entire unit. I do a bit of country driving and I want the practicallity and visiability :1peek: of spotties without having a nudge bar and big sattelite spotties on the front.

Any feedback would be great
Cheers

wouldn't they be too low to get any real distance? you'd also need to add a relay to turn them off when on low beam. i'd imagine you'd have to change the whole unit, as the foggies would have a wide beam instead of a spot.

You might be able to slot one of these in your lower intake vent http://www.snakeracing.com.au/e-series-LED-lights.html

I've never seen them for myself, just saw an ad in a 4wd rag.

When I first got my VZ I looked around for some better lights to replace the unusable fog lights. I sent email to specialists in lighting and looked around for some replacement glass to change the light projection.

Unfortunately the end result was that there is nothing that keeps a nice look of the car whilst also providing any decent light. Spotlights unfortunately seem like the only option. I just went with 55w 6000k HID in my high beam and I have a H9 2100 lumen globe in my low beam.

Thread bump!

Anybody else care to add to this?

Have thought of the same thing before in order to keep the clean looking front end but gain some extra light.

Sure might not work as well as a well setup pair of spotties up higher but still worth considering.

Cheers

Update

Been doing some searching and have come up with these

http://www.narva.com.au/products/browse/compaccompac-hid

Anybody know how VX/VY/VZ lights are mounted?

These are available in 70 and 80mm sizes. Not sure what size standard is but depending on how to mount them I think one or the other should be able to fit.

Might consider getting a set and going guinea pig with them if someone has some idea about mounting etc.

Got to be better than standard foglights and if substant improvement then I will make the effort to wire them up to the high beams.

Also, possibly these

But Im kind of over the hassle of ballasts and would prefer an all in one unit

Cheers

As already said, my research came up with nothing suitable for a Calais including these in the link above from Narva.

My mate put a set of these in his VZ Clubby as the fogs are mounted different and have a different surround panel on the bumper in the Clubby. The lighting improvement was minimal. Definetely not worth the effort. I think the low mounting position, along with the lower power and smaller sized reflector was a factor to the poor performance.

I would suggest either upgrading headlight bulbs or going HID. Plenty of threads on these mods.

Goodluck :)
