Not hard, but i find im chipping the standard paint on track days as is. So any sort of paint you apply will be likely to chip/crank while on the track, meaning it will look really tacy.
I would wait till you get a set of brakes, fit them up for a couple of weeks then decide if you want to paint.
Ive seen red calipers on red cars, and it does look pretty good. Mostly because its agasint the black/silver wheels so it still stands out.

See it you can find a set of VZ HSVDT brakes, they are black HSV AP calipers.
If you are going to paint red ones black you really need to strip the red off first, which isn't much fun with a new set of calipers.

ive always just thought it might be to much red... but i guess ur right i can always take em off and paint them later but last thing i want is them to look tacky

what would be ideal is a set of Black ap racing 6\4pots if they have me.. but see what happens

I've got the red AP Racing calipers on a redhot Monaro. Almost perfect colour match actually.

I was looking into painting my redline brembos, and this is what I found:
the professional way that brakes are painted is a powdercoating (this is how all of the big branded calipers come from factory including AP, HSV, brembo, etc) - it is incredibly heat resistant and you get that nice smooth finish
however, in order to get your calipers powdercoated (~$60 each), you need to get a brake specialist to take apart the calipers and then re-build them after with new seals (~$90 per hour plus brake seal/repair kits), seems like a lot of mucking around...
on the other hand you can just get them painted, but its not as resistant to heat, takes a lot more prep work (expensive), and cant guarantee that professional looking finish, seems a bit risky!
also, paint might be fine on the road, but wont hold up at all on a track...
you will also need to track down your brake's logo in heat resistant material in order to put back on after painting, which is another lot of mucking around - I was only able to find these online and from dodgy looking sites!
feel free to enlighten me if you have had experience with professional brake painting, it just seems a little daunting to me right now!

Guys, Northy and I painted our brakes last year. He, his AP's and me, my stock brakes.
We ended up getting some stuff from the states called G2. Back then the colours were limited but recently I had a look and they can colour match anything
It is easy to use. It's a two part system where you mix paint and hardner and then you paint it on. I did it with calipers off the car but I think Northy did it with them on. His AP's are still looking good- I have painted over mine.
You can use a preval sprayer as well. That would be a great result. The paint on works but i feel it's not a perfect result

Contact HPC in Vic they do all the Harrop calipers and have a huge range of colours. I was talking to HPC and they said that they can strip the old coating and re coat them they just needed the pistons taken out.

Thats what I said above, but you have to get a brake specialist to pull the calipers apart and rebuild them using new seals, you pay for the repair kit plus like $90 per hour! Its also hard to find new seals for some calipers, and they need to be exactly the right specs...
Then you need to find heat-proof decals and apply yourself!
I'd love to hear from someone who has actually had this done, but it seems like a muck-around!

The branding is powercoating to not painting I have done many calipers up for customers and you can get vht paint to take a beating but you must have the calipers perfectly blasted

I'll second that. Just paint them in 2-pac, they come up great & never have any issues.
I've seen some painted over the old colour with no problems & others sand-blasted first.

Have either of you guys used those calipers on the track?
For day to day driving i would expect it to be fine, but on a track where calipers can see temps well above 500 degrees im not sure how durable paint would be.
As far as im aware, Kriminal is planning on tracking his car...

Put your calipers on some rag on the ground.
Put a block of thick timber in the caliper, much like it was a brake rotor. (this is so the pistons all come out at the same time)
Stick an air blower on the brake line and watch the pistons come out.
Remove timber and carefully wiggle out the pistons and springs.
Mark which piston comes from what bore/caliper. (if you want)
Use something pointy yet not sharp to remove the seals and dust seals from the bore.
Thats all there is too it. To strip a caliper back like that shouldn't take more than 10min.
To reassemble them it's just the reverse to taking the out. Use some fresh brake fluid on the new seals when you push the pistons in as a bit of lube.
Piece of piss after you've done one and you've saved cash so you can buy some beer. :)

Hey Feistl, yep the plan is tracking my car.... i think it could eat up some $$ and would prefer not to do myself as pulling apart brakes and with my luck i will forget to put a screw or something back.
but are\were there ap racing kits in black with 6/4 pot for vt-vz?
my ebc red stuff, one side has gone yellow fron getting to hot last track day (one way of getting ebc yellow stuff, lol)
cheers everyone

Suggestions of $25 per caliper to strip the old coating and re-powder coat a caliper sound sinfully cheap to me, and more like a cash only meet me at the back door sort of price than a realistic going rate.

I charge more than 25 to powder coat that for sure you are looking at around 1 hour to strip the calipers properly not just take the pistons out kits for a four pot range from $40-$300 and more then you have the cleaning of all the bores and by pass holes before you reassemble to redo a caliper with painting from memory is about $100 min four pots it's not a simple 5 minute job

yeah thanks stockergts, i thought it was pretty involved to re-coat, and I dont want to re-paint, so I will learn to live with the colour!
