Guys and girls.

Maybe I've got a bit too much time on my hands but I've been toying with an idea now for awhile and it won't go away. Essentially, putting an LS1 or LS2 and 6MT into a 1980's Mercedes SEC (which I'm pretty sure 100% of them made are autos). I don't imagine room would be a problem, but all the 80's Mercedes tech could throw a spanner into the deatschwerks.... Fair bit of custom work (engineers certificate stuff) I would imagine such as gearbox and engine mounts and then there is suspension, brakes, clutch cylinders, getting A/C to work etc etc.

Now LS1's have been dropped into everything from old Zeds to Skylines and most inbetween, anyone know of an older Merc or similar with a conversion? Simply after a pimp looking rig with a bit more 'pep' than a 20-30 year old Merc V8 will offer. Open to discussion.

Cheers, Phil

I'm sure it's been done some where around the world, LS engines have been dropped into everything. I ws looking at doing a conversion into a late 60's early 70 Benz with bags etc as a crusier.

we wired up a LS1 into a Merc about a year ago. Unsure exactly what the year of it was .. bit of stuffing a round with gauges etc... to work.. Mr Enforcer did the mechanical conversion and i know they had to mod things like the lower control arms (they also fitted a commodore sterring rack in place of sterring box).. will try and dig up some pics of car .. from memory was a 300SL that sound right?

Awesome, appreciate it. Probably should get around to joining that forum anyway.....

I'll be looking at doing the conversion to an SEC coupe model. If the right one can be found and of course it won't cost $1000000 to do :) Anyway, some pics would be great.

EDIT: Righto imageshack are being useless khents so photobucket full time from now on!

i just highly recommend you speak to the engineer u will be using before you start buying or lay a tool on anything, go over everything you want to do down to the little details, emissions is a big thing with engineers, also 1" minimum clearence from everything. i know, im experience all the bullshit now... make sure you do just dont assume it will be right.

No doubt Tim, thank you. I just want to see if it is 'relatively' a straight forward sort of conversion, or if it just makes too many headaches. I don't see the point in having the car off the road for 2 or 3 years just so I can be different. If it was only 6 or 8 months sort of thing, well that's much more acceptable.

Geez, I thought it was supposed to be 10mm clearance. Some new cars don't even meet the 10mm, 1 inch would be impossible in most things.
