View Full Version : VE Ute / Sedan Wheel Offset

Hi all,

I have tried searching... I haven't been able to find an answer.

Can anyone tell me if the offset on wheels will be the same for the sedan as they would be for the ute?

Ie, if I have 20x10 +45 (for want of a number) and they fit the sedan no problems, does that mean they would also fit the ute?

I am trying to buy rims for my Ute, but am stuck in a world of offset / tyre sizing hurt.

I saw the threads on G8board etc about offsets - but wasn't sure how much of that pertains to the ute.

P48. Same rims are used for either variant, just ute may have a higher load rated tyre.

thanks mate.

Appreciate it.

I have 20x10 rear rims with +48 offset and they fit fine with SSSL rear springs. My rear guards are fully rolled and with no load in the rear I only scrape very occasionally i.e. maybe once per month, more often than not with a full tank of petrol.

Thanks wonks.

I asked because I was looking at these wheels;
http://www.elementwheels.com/proddetail.asp?prod=KM77528mbKM775210mb

They look awesome, but can only get them in a +35 rear offset.
There is a bloke running them on his G8 in the US. He has rolled his fenders (since the posting of this thread) and says they rub once in a while as well.. he is lowered. I won't be, or if I do - it will only be very slightly.

Reckon I chance it?

I wouldn't like to advise either way but from memory +35 offset compared to my +48 means you'll be 13mm (1/2") closer to the guard than me. If my interpretation of offsets is correct  then if you lowered your car any you'd want to go with HD springs eg Kings to minimise the chances of the tyre hitting the wheel arch on big bumps or dippers.

+35 will be a pain in the ass.

They do look good with the concave though, just notice that with +45 they wont have the same "look" as +35 so keep that in mind. But you won't have the headaches.

wow they look really good...very jealous of the multitude of choices you VE guys have for wheels!

your kidding right? 5x120 basically confines you do BMW PCD with big offsets and/or shit tempe special chrome jobs.

Whereas Falcons get 114.3 x 5, the world is their oyster when it comes to wheel choice :bawl:

It must really sucks for pre VE guys then :1peek:

There is plenty of good choice out there in 5x120 you just have to know where to look and what to look for.

When you can fit a 10" +35 offset under the back with nothing more than a roll then you have a lot of options!

When you are limited to a 9.5 +40 (ish) then your options are somewhat slimmer...especially if you dont like gay wheels and you want something around 19 to 20 inches in diameter

these Varrstoen wheels come in a 19x9.5 +20 and 19x10.5 +22...with a little bit of tyre stretch and some guard rolling they would go under VE guards quite nicely I reckon

thats in 5x120 as well...would look the business too...massive caliper clearance on them too!

*links removed because of less than 20 posts, can someone PM me their email and ill send them the picture links to post*

Come in a whole range of colours too....Its what I wanted for my VU but no way in hell they would come close to fitting without complete reshaping of the front and rear guards :(

trust me mate, I've been looking for the past year.

Who ever is fitting +35 10 inch rear and lowered is kidding themselves, even with a full fender roll it will be rubbing on bumper brackets and would suck serious dick.

*edit* +22 I would pay to see that.

I just about "gave in" and bought some GTS 20's and will put 10mm spacers on them, at least I know I won't have many issues and will look relatively tough.

I do have my sights set on some BBS CH though, just got to justify the $$ :vpo:

I just noticed that G8 with the 20x10 +35 is already running a little bit of stretch...so yeah the 10.5 +22 will be a longshot without big guard work as well

the other option is the 1.1.2 Varrstoen wheel...basically a BBS LM Copy

come in 19x8.5 +34 and 19x9.5 +34

Should allow for a straight up and down sidewall on the rear as you will get that extra 1/4" clearance before it hits the guards....9.5 should go on the front as well yeah?

Looks like an AVS model five...and very nice

will an 11" go under the back?

11 will fit but you would have to run something like +65 and lose that sexy concave.

Thats the thing about VE guards, they look big, and they are, but the Hub face is all sorts of wrong if you want to run some big track/offset.

plug in all the variables into an offset calculator to see what will work.

http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalcold.html

http://www.1010tires.com/wheeloffsetcalculator.asp

so for instance, those 11 inch rears even at a piss weak +55 offset, compared to stock (8 inch wide +48)

you get:

Inner Clearance: 45mm LESS! (the inside of the wheel to the strut housing)
Outer Position: Extend another 31mm! (position of the outside edge of the wheel)

Measure from the outside of your current wheel outwards 31mm, doesn't look good :(

could get away with a +50 with some stretch...a 275/30 or a 265/35 will sit nicely on rolled guards I think

Brasher with a lot of those Chinese wheels the concave is specific to the width of the wheel and they adjust the offset by having a smaller/larger hubface area

too many decisions.

I have decided on 20s though, so that's one out of the way :) It means i'll have to do brakes at some point, but I can live with that. With the cam and clutch going in before long - probably not a bad idea to do brakes anyway.

I will be steering clear of those KMC wheels i reckon - will be doing a bit of measuring etc during the week (when i'm home at a reasonable time) and will use those websites to see if I can figure out whats going to work best.

thanks for the input everyone.

If you are going to do HSV sized brakes that seriously curtails your choice of rims unfortunately. :( See http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=126823

dear oh dear.

Gone from wanting 20's back to just 19's.

I think I am going to go with MRR GT7's.

thanks everyone for the info.

There is a bloke on G8Board running them (http://www.g8board.com/forums/showth...718&highlight= (http://www.g8board.com/forums/showthread.php?t=46718&highlight=)). They are 8.5" front & 9.5" rears, +35 all round. He says, with fenders rolled, they don't rub. Plus... they look so porn. Check page 2 - there is a pic there where you can see them better.

I will most likely have to downgrade to 275/35/19s for rear tyres - but it's only 10mm so i'm not fussed.

I just went out and measured it... fronts will be fine - no issues there.
Rears - will need to be rolled. The wheels need another 32mm on the outside of the stock setup. On my ute there is 37mm to the edge of the fender. Should be able to roll those fenders that much no problems.

what do you reckon wonky? you seem to be quite knowledgable on this :)

+35 on 9.5 inch will look good and should be fine with a guard roll.

I like those rims btw. :goodjob:
