Just bought my missus a series II SV6 6 manual. Day 2 changed the tail lights to SSV ones from holmart and replaced the rear mufflers with HSV quad tips. Looking at getting a 2.25" dual stainless in the next few months.
My query is, what revs should the car be doing in 6th at 100km. I took it down the freeway today and it was doing about 2000 at 100km in 6th gear. Havent had or driven a 6 with a 6 speed, use to the V8s reving lowering than this. Is this normal for the V6?

I have a MY 10 SIDI SV6 6 speed auto and it seems to be more like 120 Km/h is about 2000 RPM. The owners manual doesn't seem to give specs on ratios etc., so I'm not sure how a manual would compare.

Auto's always seem to have a lower ratio like the VE V8's are 2.92 or there abouts and i believe most VE V8 manuals are 3.45's.

True - but also the internal box ratios are different. And the end result is close to 1 for 1 between auto and manual.

V8Beer if possible can you let me know what price you paid for the SV6 ?

JKGMH, i put them on to see how they looked and what it sounded like but havent cleaned them up yet. I will post a pic once there done, thanks again for the mufflers.
Is rpm something I should get holden to check, or does this sound normal?

:yup: I think you'll find for example that a VE A6 and VE M6 will both be doing a fraction over 1500rpm at 100kmh in 6th.

Isn't that what they have stock?

Wouldn't it also still be running in, I suspect your fuel economy to be a bit higher at the moment to.

Did a little looking and this appears to be the 6spd in the VE v6s:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aisin_AY6_transmission
As expected the ratios are higher than the T56s (6th is 0.57 on the m12 at least) so it shouldn't be revving that high on a normal diff. As an example my m12 with 3.9s revs around 2000 at 100km/h.
On my internet travels I did find a gear->speed calculator though but I don't know the VE wheel size as it's a little bigger than the pre-VE wheels.
See here: http://www.kabamus.com/garage/gears.html
Maybe your VE has a 3.7 upgraded diff in it? Should come out at about 2000rpm @ 100km/h in that case.

Just potentially looking at the exhaust, ive been told the mid section in the stock exhaust is quite restricted. Got the car booked in to get the handbrake readjusted on thursday, so might mention the revs. The car has done 3500km, it may have a upgraded diff as it is quite quick off mark, but maybe just the way these sixes are? The car does have 20" rims also.

Holden have had stainless steel exhausts since the VT??? (Correct me if I'm wrong) The VE definetly has stainless steel exhausts. If I was you I'd either mod the existing exhaust or elave it alone. The biggest restrictions are the mufflers, manifolds and cats. Swap those out and I'm sure you'd be happy. Maybe even cut out any hotdogs/crimps and replace with straight pipe. I can't see you picking up much power putting on a whole new 2.25" exhaust. You'd just be wasting money.

Sorry, but disagree. :) Commodore exhausts have all been stainless for years I'm sure.

Actually, that's probably the case! I remember reading/hearing that (some of??) the latest V6 SIDI engines now run 3.7 diffs.

You need some extractors/cats and some straight pipes at the back with a tune and cold air

That should make it rev lower at 100kmh. Has the speedo been adjusted for the 20" rims?

Rim size wouldn't really have any effect assuming it has the appropriate tyre.
The rim might be larger but the wheel as a whole should be the same diameter which avoids having to re-adjust the speedo.

I think aedeau might be referring to shiny/chrome stainless steel. I think I will leave the exhaust, might just modify existing one?, when tunes become avialable I will probably get one and maybe some extractors later.

You're right but it's likely the overall circumference of a 20" wheel and tyre will be greater than the original 18" SV6 wheel and tyre unless he has very low profile tyres.

Pretty sure 245/45/18 is the same as 245/35/20...

You’re right, with this combo there is no real difference.
Overall Diameter
245/45R18 = 677.67mm
245/35R20 = 679.45mm
20” are 1.78mm bigger.

from memory the old SV6's have the 2.92 diff, whilst the SIDI's have the 3.27... might make abit of a difference.

Aparently the series II SV6 has the same diff as the ss, so what its reving at is right.
