Hey guys,
In the market for a new car and was initially looking at another VY SS but noticed there isnt much of a difference in price for a VY Clubsport, looking at them I realized that the VZ Clubsport is only a few thousand more once again.
Looked online for build stats on both cars but didnt find nothing helpfull so wondering if there is any difference between them besides the LS1/LS2...?
I've previously owned a VY SS with 300.6rwkw (mods done by previous owner) but wondering what power the LS1 vs. LS2 makes with mild mods, (headers, exhaust, intake and tune)
Any input or what people recommend would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

I'd go with the VZ R8 with leather, but the price some people are asking, you could be looking at a VY Signature or even GTS. Guess it comes down to your budget and what's available...
Not much of a difference between the two, Series II VY's will have the same seats as VZ, Series I's will have Coulsens (in the R8's or optioned in the base model). R8's also have better brakes.
Series I's will also have less power, 260 Vs 285, compared to the Z's 297. The 6L will have more torque.
If you're looking at mild mods, the Y Series 2 headers are very good, so might save you a smidgen there but bugger all in it really.

Mate I think you'd be happy with either, apart from the engine, in the middle of the front bar at the bottom it kicks up The rear wing dips down in the middle in the centre to the boot lid. I like the VZ kit better but maybe I'm biased. VZ manual also had better gear ratio's.
VZ R8 with the HSV AP brakes would be my pick.

VZ HSV has the M12 gearbox. It's nice

If your looking at a VY definitely go for a series two as the R8 gets the same seats & steering wheel as the VZ also has all the black dash surround instead of the standard looking grey. But personally I love the VZ front end & would spend a little extra to get one.

The hsv z series is more refined and a better look to it,especially the front end.
Also it has the 6L and at the end of the day it is always gonna make more power and torque over the ls1 with matching mods.
If I was to do it all again defently would of coughed up the extra money for one.

cheers boys, looks like I'll hunt down a VZ then, and yeah I'm only interested in the manual.
What power figure would I be looking at roughly, with extractors, full exhaust, mafles tuen and air take on the LS2? 250rwkw approx?

Yeah in a manual ls2 your probably look at roughly 250-260rwkw
Give or take on the setup you go with.

I know someone selling a 2005 VZ R8 in white for about $30,500. Check on carsales. It's white, low k's, leather, ap racing brakes, shadow vz r8 wheels, very nice. Or if your interested I'll give you his number. He's on the mornington peninsula in Victoria.

The 6.0 LS2 is always going to make more power than a 5.7 LS1 with the same mods and I gather (having never driven an LS2) doesn't have the low down doughiness of the LS1. A decent set of extractors is a good first mod for the VZ Clubby as unlike the VY2 Clubby which had the only decent extractors HSV ever put on a pre VE, the VZ Clubby only runs cast iron headers.

Definitely Z LS2 FTW.

I'd go the VZ for sure. For me the VY kit doesn't seem to sit right. The spoiler and front bar try to be curved but the general VY shape is very angular.
Many good ones are floating around for ~$26K now and many are bog stock. Throw the usuals (extractors, exhaust, intake, tune) at it and you should get a decent figure. This is especially the case since the 6.0L was held back a bit as it had to be Euro4 compliant.
Best thing about the LS2's is the torque off idle.

Mate if you can stretch the budget that bit further definitely go for the LS2 VZ. You won't regret it. The low down pull of the 6L is fantastic.
Good luck!

The MY06 VZ R8's are the pick of the bunch if you can get one. I believe they got the linear steering rack and performance suspension out of the VY GTS as well as 4 pot AP's.
