Drives typical "journalism" or really troll bait more specifically.

Sure Holden has had its cruds but they sure have has their good crackers as well.

Its like reading the bile of a movie critic really. ;)

These ****s are lost, seriously.

If they want to pick on Holden's, then there are others that should have replaced alot of that list.

1. 4 Cyl Sunbird :sleep:

2. 4 Cyl Commodore :lmao:

3. Epica :shock:

4. Combo :woot:

5. UC Torana :fishing:

I voted camira. Can't believe the vl grp a made their list. Sure they have some points, but common. The thing was inspirational for it's time. Still a tuff car to this day regardless of it's looks.

+1, Leave the poor old VL's alone. :lol: They're good old cars. Sure they have a few niggly problems nowadays (mainly cranky electrics and rust issues) But still, keep them serviced and maintained, looked after. They're a good old rig. :D

Bit unfair they judged cars as being bad just on looks. Although Im not a real big fan of the VP Series looks. VP SS looked alright though, although they had the worst looking factory SS wheels / rims

Id say the worst would be -

VC - VH Commodore 4 cylinder
Gemini Diesel
Epica - without doubt!
SB Barina's, maybe even some of the other Opel stuff they imported here. May have been good cars when new, but with a bit of age, and mechanical issues arise they can be expensive to fix up

UC torana.

Best thing about it was that everyone assumed it was a Sunbird. - Then got a rude surprise at the lights.
The good old days...

186 40tho over, 149 Head w/- L34 valves & double springs, 350 Holley & full zorst.

Had some fun in that thing... hate to see the UC Torana on the list :(

One of our work vehicles back in the eighties was a "Holden Shuttle" which was a van of sorts (may have had Isuzu origins?) and was the worst Holden that I ever had to drive - there was nothing good about this vehicle absolutely nothing !! walking was better , something a Shuttle driver did with regular monotony .

And here folks we have a winner.
Its amazing how many pot shots drive takes at Holden they seem to have a personal vendetta against them or something.

Instead of mentioning the worst Holdens why not even the side up with the good ones instead.

I start off my my VE Calais I got so sick of my one eyed Ford family supporters crap I went out and bought one, the FG Falcon is just a rep car really and thats ok too.

I didn't intend this topic to be a Holden bashing one especially in a Holden Forum.

VB commodore !! A/C inadequate,Vacuum gauge which showed your economy , huh! Trimming never lined up externally and internally , Crap seats,Anti Pollution everywhere throughout the engine bay that didn't work, Cruise control worked when it felt like,3hrs to change plugs on a V8,Bumpers that rusted . The only thing that I thought were good was the SLE head light wipers which I never ever used. Oh and the indicator stalks would always break.

VL was Before my time but my old man owned a vl turbo - bloody quick car but the electrical issues forced him to sell it they were that bad. Traded it on a VH SL/E with a 308 which he absolutely loved and had no issues with.

The worst Holden IMO was not actually sold in Australia. It as sold in Japan as the Mazda Roadpacer AP between 1975-1977.

Basically a HJ/HX Premier with a 13B rotary engine.

Power = 100 kW
Torque = 138 Nm
Weight = 1575 kg

Accelaration - no figures but described as poor.
Top speed = 166 km/h
Fuel Consumption = 9 MPG or 26 L /100km

Price = 3.8 million yen = $10,000 Australian.

Epic Fail

I had a TE Diesel for 15 years - gutless, take 2 Kms to pass a car on the open road, would just get to 130km/hr down a mineshaft!!!

Got Gemini cancer as I'm sure mine came out on a ship as deck cargo!!

The motor was gutless but bulletproof and economical, the alternator filled up with oil and fried the inbuilt regulator because the vacuum pump seal would fail because of soft metal on the drive shaft.

Cost me $84 for fuel Adelaide to Brisbane in 1988 and I'd get 56mpg sitting in the torque band in 5th gear.

Traded it on the VS dual fuel in 1996. Had 300,000Km on the clock

Whilst the HDT VKs looked great, the std VK was pretty awful. Crappy square gauges, unless you bought the Calais, then you got LED gauges that were swamped by sunlight IF they still worked. Build quality was terrible, and some of the colours offered (manky aqua blue, flat yellow, Ansett orange, etc) = :spew:

Cheers, SLuggy

cars like the uc torana and the 4 pot commodore though we can let rest in pieces whilst we still have to deal with the trauma of seeing cars like the epica, viva and astra.

Oh yeah, those Piazzas were complete heaps of dung. Their handling was supposed to be an abomination.

Maybe, but they were still 10 years more advanced than any Aussie Holden of the era (and Piazza was five years old when it was released in Aus!). While now our Korean imports are not in the same ballpark as Commodore. Interesting how times change!

The reason Piazza was such a flop is because it was up against the Chrysler Starion, which was a much better car for the same money, and still had that local feel-good thing to it. Holden simply tried to make too much profit on every sale. Astra VXR anyone? :)

Yeah and Brock's favourite performance mod was an energy polarizer.

Brock was a legend but his recommendations are not exactly something I would hinge my opinion on.

VL was a great car in it's time.

They still are. I can't believe out of all the Holdens over the last 60+ years they actually had the nerve to put the VL SS Group A "Walkinshaw" on there.

Yeah its styling isn't appealing to everyone, but how does that make it one of the "worst" Holdens ever made? If it was based on looks I could somewhat understand, but I bet the muppet who put it on there has never actually driven one.

Martin_D
29-06-2011, 04:38 AM
Fact is VL Group A was an actual Group A homologation car that then actually went on to win Bathurst. Its genuinely one of the - best - Holdens ever made, built for a purpose - which it performed. One of the very last times GMH were forced to make a modified road car for racing use that the public could buy.

It should be celebrated, but obviously not by the corn-stalker that wrote that piece :)

Can anyone recall the last time they saw a Starion? Haven't seen one for years. What happened to them all? I would have thought that they would have retained some loyal following.

Most people here would do some reading, and if you are a car enthusiast, hopefully contribute some good comments. You would then easily had 10 posts. And you would have been able to post in the selling section. I hope your future posts are not going to be similar to this one.

Had 3 VL's, never had any major issues with any of them. Still have the 5L Calais in my garage, just waiting on funding to do a few little things then get it regoed again. Can't wait to drive it again.
I'd say leave the VL alone, but we are all entitled to our opinion, and they all vary, just don't try to push you're dislike of the VL onto me, it won't work.
There's a poll for ford as well, but no ALL option in the voting, lol.
