View Full Version : Finally, an 11.....

Well, finally cracked the ever elusive 11 sec run at Willowbank tonight. Final run and the one that got me the win in the quick eliminator was an 11.96@ 111.14mph. The mph was way down for some reason but I am just happy to finally get an 11 after days of trying.
Very happy with the 60' time of 1.65 and the reaction times for the racing were all in the .4's with a best of .400. Unfortunately it didn't get as cold as it has been in the last few nights but still 14 degrees is better than the summer temps.
For those that may wonder or not know(and to head of a heap of pm's), I have a mild 222/224 cam with some head work with a MAFless tune all carried out by PowerTorque, one of the forum sponsors. If you're in Brisbane or close by and you want to do similar times, give Mark a bell.

Brett, I'm now running a PowerTorque over radiator intake straight onto the TB. Although I have the standard radiator, the intake still has quite a sizeable opening and collection width. The induction roar is also great.;) That old converter of yours is currently out being restalled to something similar to the stally in the car at the moment.(Vig 3600) I'm pretty confident that once it goes back in it will do similar 60' times.:)
Make sure you guys post up how you go at your next meet.

A great side benefit of all this development and knowledge that Mark and Paul have gained is that it will be able to be passed down to future Power Torque customers. :)

We in Qld owe the NSW boys heaps, especially SSgen3 & planB, for their cold air setups that have led us to start getting competitive in the 1/4 mile.
They certainly have been at the forefront of development & very generous with their time consuming development results. I am eternally greatful to you guys & can only speak for myself but all up here getting good results will hopefully acknowledge where the development has stemmed from & give thanks accordingly (as well as to their engine tuners).

Good stuff, what sort of MAP readings did you have at WOT down the track with that intake? I am still running through a MAF and airbox so my MAP was around 96-97 down the quarter. Also, I guess that it's a race only intake and doesn't run a filter? Did you have any luck locking the converter in 3rd, I tried it with LS1Edit but it didn't seem to lock at WOT.
I won't be back out to the track for a while, need to sort out a couple of "minor" things first.
Good luck next time you go out.

Brett, MAP readings logged were all 99-101 with EFIlive which is a lot better than the SAS style intake I originally used which gets down to 97's during the same runs. This intake is currently race only but the Mark2 version is currently having a removebale filter fitted for normal street use.
I haven't tried locking the converter down the strip, it is another area of testing that needs to be done when we get some more time. I could lock it using EFIlive but my question on exactly how to do this went unanswered so not sure of the exact procedure for doing this. It appears to be a dyno function only where you have to get it into 3rd and then select to lock it up. This might be interesting going down the 1/4, leaning over to hit the lockup on the laptop.
Also, just got my converter back from being restalled and new bits added to it, should be a little bit better in its new state.;) It certainly is getting some use that converter after the amount of LS1's its been in.

Im fairly sure you can cut into the lock up wire in the pcm harness and add an on/off switch, wich according to the yanks works, when edit doesnt. i haven tried it mysef but would be good as some of em gained up to .2 locking it in 3rd, results varying depending on the efficiency of the converter.

No it's not the ssgen3 or Plan B type intake, yes they were the first to have one of this type on an LS1 powered Commodore but they didn't reinvent the wheel.
That type of intake has been used in various guises buy many Race Teams and Manufacturers eg V8 Supercar, GRM Monaro, Chevrolet Camaro & Corvette & of course Pontiac Firebird

Quite funny really. It was some sort of full on drag Torana that was running N/A instead of on the gas. He had a crew of 4 and had to get towed to the staging lanes and then towed back up from down the end of the track.
I drove past him on the way home with the Torana on the back of a trailer and me listening to the radio in my car and the time and car number still on the window. I waved.;)

I thought that was the idea with doing up a commi, you get a car that could run 10's-->12's all day and you can still drive home and do the shoping in it, sure there is that hks skyline, the rx7 and a few toranas that run 7's and 8's but they cant drive home now can they. Well done, whats the next step being the first NOS free 10 sec commi?.....all in good time though.

Only 111mph? Judging by the timeslip you're losing effective hp at mid track (killer 60' tho). Would that be due to convertor slippage? Looks like there's a definite mid 11 on the cards. Very impressive for a porky street driven commodore mate :)

Don't know why the mph is down and yet the ET is the best so far. Best ever mph is only 113.89 which I repeated last night on street tyres. Did a 12.41@113.89 with 1.93 60' on my everyday street tyres to see what it would do. Changed back to my original converter that has been restalled. Will try slicks again in the next week or so with this converter.

Yeah I agree you should atleast be up around the 116-117 mark, maybe even 120 when you get to the mid 11's, 111 and 113 arnt great speeds, but the time is still impressive.

No, I'm sure there are quite a few of the guys on here that have done better real street tyre times.
Went out again Saturday because the weather was perfect but couldn't do better than a 11.99.:( Mainly due to wheelspin with the slicks on.
Only saving grace for the night was a new best 60' time of 1.64 and I finally cracked 114mph. Looks like the restalled and fit out converter is working well.;)

Ye especially with manual its bloody hard to get decent times with street tyres.. I could only get 2 x 12.7's but did heaps of 13's at 115-116mph
Pretty sure 1surfer and cat12z did low 12's on nitto's in syd.
LYTNING
11-08-2003, 02:39 PM
Yeah, 1surfer did a 12.44 on Nittos down in Sydney. I know they are legal street tyres but to me they are not true street tyres. I mean, you wouldn't put them on and drive around for 30000kms unless you had lots of $$$. Slicks are slicks and street tyres are street tyres, but to me Nittos are in between and comparing them to the others is not exactly a true comparison. IMO anyway. Or as Richard would say, they are cheating.:)

You sure that 60ft time is right?? Any car that can 60ft as lousy as 1.9 yet can still run a 12.2 is showing pretty big power so the MPH should be way up there, not down around 113mph (especially a nitrous car). Be interesting to see the timeslip to check out the incrementals!!
