best bang for buck tune is a mail order so realistically any tuner you want can do it.
where in melbourne are you

There is a list of forum sponsors. That would be a good place to start.
"Best bang for your buck" is also very subjective.
You could be happy paying 50% compared to what other ppl might pay elsewhere....but if your car explodes due to a shit tune, perhaps you have got a little bit too much "bang".....

HPF for me.
You will be safe with most forum sponsors. As HEKYEH was getting at... the tune is critical to performance and reliability of an engine. I wouldn't take the cheap road...

GM MOTORSPORT.
There results on the dyno and at the track speak for them self.
i would give Phonz a call and tell him what your wanting from a tune.
he will be up front and tell you what you should exspect.
you will not be dissapointed with the service and honesty from them.
cheers. Alan.:)

Any of these places will be able to look after you.
Can't be said enough how important tune really is. You can put the best of everything in the engine and spend in excess of 40 grand but if the tune is not right then your 40grand engine will go bang and not in a good way. More emphasis has to go on how you want your car to be rather than your back pocket with this.

Don't know about SASS or Jason Clark but the rest (inc G&D Performance) are forum sponsors with good reps. No doubt for each you can find someone who is unhappy but most people are very happy with their work. Best thing to do is go and talk to all who are local to you and see whose shop you like the look of and most of all who gives you the best vibes. If you live somewhere in the south east there is plenty of choice! :yup:

Jason Clark Auto is on the forum he just isn't a sponsor of the forum at this point in time user name jca. I gave a list depending on what area the op is in. All workshops I listed have a good rep as far as I am aware and do quality work.

NJC Corp is just up the (Western Ring) road from you, so why not give Nick a bell and he can provide you with some options.

I'd give either Nick at NJC a bell or Luis at APS.

Autotechnique
Your kidding right? The OP wanted value for money.... I hardly consider autotechnique to be good value.
Yes, they do do good work but they also charge at least 200% more than everyone else. Ive been in a few times for quotes on work and couldn't believe how much they were charging for relatively simple tasks. In some cases they were 400% more expensive than real experts for no apparent reason.

I went for a mail order tune from OzTrack, and love it :goodjob:
http://www.oztracktuning.com/
With a 2K budget you should be able to get diff gears
and OTR + mail order tune for $1050

+1 for JCA - I did a host of mods with JCA back in 2008 and the car is still driving extremely well and I have given it the boot more than a fair share of times. Very reasonable prices and no-nonsense/bull$hit advice.

Mate, to be honest, unless you're 100% certain of their work, stick to the mainstream - well worth it in the end.
Being from Narre, you've got HP-F, Chev's, G & D, APS and a whole heap of others very close to you - all with proven results.

Welcome to the forum. You might want to do some searching to see what the general opinion of Oztrack tuning is on this forum at the moment...
If you can't find anything I'll dig up some threads.

In my opinion, I don't think it is worth it. It may end up costing you more than just the mail order tune........
For a little bit extra, you can get it done on a dyno by some very reputable shops right here in Melbourne.
As you are new to the forum....do a search and have a read :)
And remember...opinions are like assholes...some are more fukked than others ;)
Thanks for the help guys, much appriciated.

The funniest thing mate is that all these New people chasing Tunes are questioning whether Oztrack is good all seem to be new member's ??????
maybe someone is signing up under new names to find out if the said has any friends.......

Not necessarily, and before I explain why I should state for the record that I have one of Macca's mail order tunes, am very happy with it, but I don't have a dog in this fight and am not biased.
I have never had an Oztrack tune, never been in a car with one, and so cannot comment either way as to if they are good or bad. I will simply pass comment on noobs asking re Oztrack.
I found this forum about 2 years back when I was searching the interwebs for a way to fix a rattle coming from my passenger side window.
Search led me to a thread on here that explained I needed to replace the little white nutri-grain clips in the window runner. Bit more searching the subject on here had me also pulling the window frame in and putting beltgrip on the door rubbers. "Great stuff, what else does this site have that might be of interest".
Within an hour of reading random threads that caught my eye in General Automotive I had come to the conclusion that I just had to have a DUS OTR and Oztrack tune as they seemed to be the two names that came up again and again back then.
Sure, some other tuners names were mentioned (and other OTRs mentioned too), but DUS and Oztrack were the two names that seemed to be everywhere throughout the forum back then. Granted due to finances I was looking at mail order tunes which is probably why Oztrack's name kept coming up.
All I am saying is that these could be legit new members that have done a little reading re mail orders and keep seeing the Oztrack name, which is why they ask - but by the same token if they had done a bit of reading they would have found some feedback, and recent feedback at that.
If a thread pops up asking "Who should I NOT get a tune from" then yeah...but in my first week of joining I nearly created a thread asking for feedback re mail orders and tuners, and the only reason I didn't is that I had seen enough noobs flamed for asking something that had been done to death.
But like I said, I have no grounding to offer an opinion on Oztrack tunes; all I can comment on is why a new member to this site might seek feedback.

+ 1 more for JCA (Jason Clark Automotive). I had Jason load one of his tunes into my VT R8 today. The car is faster through the entire rev range, smoother, had speedo recalibrated and tuned open loop to sort out a blown oxy sensor issue. Car also ran 7.8L/100klms back to south melbourne. Highly recommend. It's like a different car with OTR and tune
