View Full Version : biting the hand that feeds.....

Went down to my local Holden dealership today.......needed a couple of new bulbs for my centre console auto shift letters.......y'know, to illuminate the P,D,N,R and the +,- thingo's. 2 small LED bulbs do the job lighting this area up and for some reason they both quit working. I had power at the bulb sockets so was pretty sure all I needed was a few new LED bulbs. How does $52.00 per bulb sound????????? No shit!!!!!! I was almost on the ground and was gasping for the big one's no end. 52 bucks........even the parts guy was bewildered.
So with out much further ado I blew that dealership and hit the nearest Autobarn. $10.99 for a pack of 5 of said LED bulbs. Naturally I coughed this "small fortune" up, plugged 'em in and presto.......lights.
So I don't quite understand Holden and their ridiculous pricing - I never have -but what I do know is they are taking the piss a little to much and a little to often...........and as history shows us, it's never a good idea to bite the hand that feeds.

There's probably plenty of people who just drop their car off at the dealer and say "please fix this" and then get a shock when they get the bill but pay it anyway or don't even look at the bill. There's probably a price model for small electrical parts like (Cost price + GST) x 10 that they stick to. And I always LOL when I hear stuff like "even the parts guy was bewildered" - I'm a skeptic ;)

Not sure.......but surely you cannot justify $52 for a globe?
Especially when you can get a pack of 5 for $10.99 .
PS......Yeah, I know ...these are non genuine and have not been tested in Antarctica ...etc etc..

I have no idea why they would be this price. I would have to compare the part number quoted on with the part number in EPC to confirm the bona fides of this story.
As always with everything in life, do your homework.

You forgot the development that went into the individual globe and Holden have to store these things for years,

The Funny thing is Muzz that the ones @ Auto Barn are probably genuine and the HOLDEN ones are reboxed as a guess :) so the box is now worth $49.50

Absolutley spot on :goodjob:
It`s not just GM, because most manufacturers have prices that you just can`t fathom.

To true mate..
Bobcat do exactly the same they buy a air filter from Fleetguard and then rebox it and charge 2 1/2 times the retail price of the Fleetguard filter :):)
And I know I am 100% correct as they even have the fleetguard part No marked on the filter

I was talking to a guy at a place who supplies aftermarket subwoofer upgrades for the BMW (particularly the 1 series from memory which have an under seat sub). These are apparently just a drop in replacement and the guy just rolled his eyes skyward when talking about the ridiculous markup BMW dealers charge compared to even what this place sells them for to the public! No doubt the dealers pay even less!

Tuffie it's all to do with the "BOX" that it comes in :):)
May I suggest shop around, I thought all Holden dealer prices would be the same, or at least close but found out they're not when I when to my local dealer to get an A/C belt, they quoted a price of around $60 but say they didnt have it in stock but they had one at their parts warehouse and could get it in for me, I said I was going past their warehouse that day anyway so I'd just stop in a get it from the warehouse myself (which sells direct to the public) when I got to the parts warehouse the price was only $40, unbelieveable  same dealer, different location, $20 cheaper. I now by all my parts direct from the parts warehouse, I just bought the lasted upgrade for the VE A/C belt issue, the one that comes with the bracket and tensioner for a little under $80, I was quoted $180 by other dealers.
