**** that is cheap i wouldnt mind snapping that up, for the price it is who cares whether it has a few marks here or there, a quick lick of paint over it again and it would look as good as new, its good car for some young person to get into the performance scene in something half decent at a good price i reckon,

Any car goes down before the desirable ones go back up. The latest Monaro is still a bit new to be on the rise. Too many around still.
20 years ago I knew a guy who bought a clean HQ GTS 350 Monaro for $8000. He sold it a few years later for over $30K.
Re the car in question, it's certainly going to sell at this price, as long as it's got nothing scary going on.

Seems to also show that V8's are very hard to move these days.
But as davo said these kind of cars are sure to rise again if i had the cash id be jumping on it quick smart :)

i may be slightly bias, but the monaro's have done well.
considering some are nearly 10 years old , people are still asking over 30k for low km 02 models with 50 - 60,000kms.
iv'e seen '06 vz clubsports going for cheaper than that with similar kms, even a few ve ss' are selling for 22-24k.

That's damn cheap, will cost bugger all to get the wheels done and scratches repair.
Jump on it fella, they are a great car.

If anyone is interested just make sure you do the usual checks for major smash damage/poor repairs, patchup mechanical repairs, and considering it's location, potential flood damage...

I'm bias too but hsv keep producing clubbys every bloody year, monaros have stopped as we all know so will be collectors item/ history car in years too come, looks like a cheap price!

As we know planetdavo, a Monaro doesn't have to reside in QLD to suffer flood damage, just drive it in the rain... as I found out to my horror...

The leaking sill issue can't reach things like PIM modules, BCM's, most major wiring harnesses, engine bay PCM etc...
Can make carpet a bit smelly though if not dried out quickly enough (and the fix getting done).

I'm in 2 minds! I'd love another one, but I am obsessive like that! We have 4 cars now, and I am not sure if another Monaro is wise - Mine doesn't move as it is! (an 02 with 37K)

Yeah they may be advertised for that but are any actually selling for that? No one in their right mind would pay that kind of money for an 02 monaro no matter what the k's...

Yeah that's true, it's a fairly high asking price ATM, but who's to say they won't appreciate in future or .... on the other hand they may not.
I bought my cv8 over a VE ss (both owners asking a similar price). It all comes personal preference and what it's personally worth to someone.

Monaro is definitely holding better value than Commodore. Besides being a slinky 2 door, there are far less of them around, and you can't make a HSV from a V6 Executive...:hide:
For anyone that just wants the latest thing, a Monaro will simply be an old model in their eyes.
A Mate sent me that link recently, thought about snapping it up but have reconsidered after reading the leaky sill thread and will hang out for a VZ.

I wouldn't let that issue hold you back from buying an early one.
The first cars are approaching 9 years old now, and rust isn't an issue, as the cars were fully dipped before painting (which includes coating the inner sills).

I'd be more concerned in between the seams Davo, even if there's an offchance of a car developing a rust issue I'd rather buy one that doesn't have this sort of issue.

Fair enough, but as said, the car was fully dipped for rust proofing before painting, so anywhere the water might get is where the dipping process has already coated.
With the VZ, make sure you can handle the small boot.

LOL my other cars are a VZ Tonner and an VY Adventra so the Monaro would slip in between them in the Boot space stakes :D

althought the monaro is a nice car, id hightly doubt that in the future it is going to see a big return, plus youll have to wait thirty years to get it?? it would be like me say that if i didnt drive my ss that in thirty years it will be a very low km ss and there will be not alot around hopefully . try getting a cheap straight 351 xd these days,, you barly see them . but its the same as the newer monaro, it has not direct contact with racing. sure the shape of the car raced but it not the same car as, the ho's and monaros torana's even the brockys . id be careful as the cost of keeping the car for that long could be worth more than the return. but one good thing about these car is they dont get rust..

V2 Monaro may or may not achieve lofty heights in the future. Ask pretty much anyone from 30 years ago though and most will tell you cars of the 70's/80's would never have achieved what they have either...
So, some people will drive them daily like a "normal" car, and others will store them away for special occasions and nice sunny days. The rest will look after itself. :yup:
Used to buy early Monaros out of the trading post for next to nothing and use them very hard then discard them..... Lost count of how many we as a group trashed over the years, at todays prices we could all have retired comfortably..
If you can sit on a mint Modern Monaro one day it's going to be worth $$$, I buy cars as drivers NOT as collectables so this isn't an option for me.

The future price and availability of fuel, combined with potential regulations on how such an old vehicle could be used in the year 2045 may well have quite an influence on value??

Seems a fair price to me - some people ask that much just for the headlights

if you were actually buying the car for the sole purpose of making money you would be crazy. A lot better and smarter things can be done with 18k.

I've got two cars which are appreciating in value.
However, once your throw in yearly rego, yearly safety inspection (NSW), CTP, comprehensive insurance and maintenance costs ... the value they are increasing by each year, is less than my yearly outgoings.
