Does anyone know what cam will sound tougher at idle? Stupid question i know.

Tsp 231/236 644 612 112
Lunati voodoo 227/238 583 600 112

Both LS3 designed Cams

They would both be pretty close but it will all come down to the tune. You can have it tuned to chop or be smooth.

What Boggers says is true. But who are you trying to impress? Or are you wanting to invite the boys in blue to give you a canary?(sp?)

Either their both big enough to be tuned with lumpiness...

Agreed...Cam's(Amadss) old ve ute had a 110lsa cam in it & it sounded tuff as fark, but those cam's arent bad even something with a 113lsa still has a decent note.

Tsp (231+236)/4 - 112 x 2 = 9.5
Lunati (227+238)/4 - 112 x 2 = 8.5

So TSP will have more overlap making it sound lumpier but its in the tune as stated

Do you only wish to make your car sound tough!
Those cams will rev well & make power in the upper revs, all the time your car makes the noise at idle a smaller well thought out cam will have plenty of low to mid range torque and leave you behind.

Setup setup setup.. A well thought out small cam is always left behind by the well thought out package with a monster cam. The camshaft is but one component of what makes a car fast..

LS(X) based motors have made people lazy and ignorant because of how well they work and how much they cover up poor choices and setup.

 depends now doesn't it on what the cars used for, 'girlie' straight line or circuit, i leave many of your so called monster cammed cars & blown street racers behind, usually 2/3 sec per lap on Pukekohe....So yes like you say Setup setup setup.

Where did you figure that out, i really couldnt give a toss, have you had one ofthose cams in your LS1 ....NO YOU HAVE NOT, as the thread title states which cam will idle tougher!!! I know the pro's and con's of a big and small camshaft and actually the two camshafts are designed for an LS3 not a LS1, you do realise a LS3 has bigger cubes aye , which a cammed LS3 would properly leave you for dead LS1 VN with ever of those two cams ..... A 227/238 by no means a massive cam in a LS3, and the 231/236 texas speed are getting some great HP with no loss of torque under 2000 rpm.

your motor setup has sfa to why you may be quicker at the track suspension brakes tyres and you as the driver play a more crital role I know of a few all out race cars that the owner can't drive and get smoked by a cam only package with good suspension brakes etc that the owner can drive

Ebbett21, Yes i have had a cam like that, a TSP 231/237 nitros friendly cam, be it a LS1 cam though, it revved to 7k changed gear at 6800, but as was said earlier setup setup setup. my car is setup for track/street and though it's not setup for it, the occassional play on Meremere. I pull a flat 12 @ 118mph.
The smaller cam has more torque which gets me out of corners quicker & will leave the bigger cubed LS3 on take off, you are quite welcome to play catchup.
Put your BIG cube & cam where your mouth is: i see your in Hamilton, our next sprint meet is on the 24th July at Pukekohe, we will see who out runs who down the back straight. :)

Well tell me this then, GM Motorsport run a turbo killer in there 6 litre VE SS and was one of the fastest N/A in Aussie down the quarter, so why would my car with either a 227/238 or 231/236 cam be playing catchup ........ you are forgetting its an LS3 not a LS1 , the 231/237 you mentioned you had in your LS1 has been around for years, its an old designed grind, id be hesitant to run that big in a LS1, maybe that put you off bigger cams

forgive my vageness but wouldn't your smaller cam produce less torque (compared to the larger cam) at lower revs making it seem quicker out of the corners

ie 222/222 say 480ftlbs @ 2000rpm compared to
231/237 say 560ftlbs @ 3500rpm
