View Full Version : full hurricane system questions
Just after someone with a wm/ve L98 in an auto that has fitted up a full hurricane sysetem. Have spent the last 2 hours searching but no real answers to my questions.
My biggest fear/concern is droan. I cannot and will not put up with it at all. So basically i want to know your thoughts having THIS system in a AUTO.
I know i can get a kpm system with a no droan garentee or the new aps bi modal but will not get that past the minister of war and finance. Also don't want to go with x force as im not that keen on the sound.
Also can anyone tell me if the hurricane cat back will bolt up to the stock cats or will i need to mod the cat pipe flange to suit?
Lastly what is the volume like at idle and calm around town driving. My wife doesnt want a overly loud and obnoxious sounding car, after all it is a caprice :D but once i get in i want to know its a v8 and dont mind a bit of volume

Hi
I have the full sysetem 1 7/8 headers and 3 inch in a ve wagon had bad drone but know afm is removed it's fine. Not overly loud prob one of the quit 3 inch sysetems on the market.I am very happy with it and a wagon is bad for noise but no prob on a long trip.I'm from Brewarrina (you know were that is) so thats my long trip home to see family.

I have hurricane full system , 1 7/8 hpc coated headers, cats + 2 1/2 inch cat back and it does drone at about 1400rpm , not badly but its there.. Not loud when city driving. Fitted a cam and sound changed significantly but not over the top ( could probably be louder for my taste ), generally very happy with the system except for that little bit of drone. Car is a 2007 VE L98 auto , now 427rwhp
spoke to the guys at liverpools exhausts and they said the system has been known to droan a tiny bit in an auto but also said when im ready to order just call them up and they can use a different rear cans to eliminate it. comes in at $770 for mild steel and $1070 for stainless hook up to the standard cats as mentioned above. $2200 for the full system in mild and extra $400 for ceramic coating.

Sounds OK but using different rear cans to eliminate drone will almost certainly change the sound too, so best to try to go for a drive in a wagon with the exact same system to see if you're happy with it before committing or at least pre-arrange a refund/swap if you're not happy with the sound.
that would be the peefect world solution wonky but due to where i live its not going to happen. any ve here that has a aftermarket exhaust is either a x force or been mutilated to be a b&s ute with 5" drain pipes and hot dogs that makes me cringe when i hear them.
anyway ill see how i go with liverpool exhausts about a refund if not happy with it but problem may be that i was going to get it shipped to me and fit it myself.
thanks for the posts guys

I had cheap Xforce catback before doing a range of mods that include a full Hurricane system. 1 7/8 coated headers and 2 1/2 inch catback. At the time at Liverpool Exhausts I had a choice of two different rear cans - normal (louder) and quieter versions. I chose the quoted ones although they were still as loud as the old xForce.
The xForce droned a lot at the usual 1800 revs. The Hurricane droned but at lower revs and a lot less than the xForce. Sounded fantastic though. Had lots of comments. However because I leave home early and was waking neighbors I have replaced the rears with stock VE. Still sounds a lot better than the stock system, but no drone at all. Zippo!
Would be too quiet for some of you young blokes though!!! :-)

If you can get GUARANTEED no drone, and if that is your only priority then go for it. I've had 3 x complete systems on mine since 2006.
ATM I am very happy with the 3" Hurricane System in mild steel and my Pacemaker tuned length headers. The main reason is the vast amounts of good comments people have conveyed to me on the sound of the car.
It's all a very personal thing.
