Hi All,

As you may know from my other thead, we are currently looking at a new medium sized car (most likely a WRX Premium). The one Subie dealer we have been to didnt seem to want to budge much. $47k for a $48k car.

My question is - has anyone bought a new car recently and what is the market like? Did you get a good deal or is it a dealers market with no need to bargain?

Thanks
Anthony.

I done ok with the ute I bought early this year.. But when I bought the wrx in 09 they didn't budge much either, I don't know why there not that good we still have ours, but have been thinking of selling it.

You need to shop around to get a good deal, then go back to your local dealer and hit them up again.. good luck

Subaru has supply problems after the earthquake, so they don't really need to do deals by the sounds of it.

Personally, I'm always stunned to discover how much people pay for Golf GTIs - can easily get to $50k!

As Marco said, from all I read and hear demand for some models in relatively limited supply eg. Golf GTi, Golf R etc is so high and waiting lists so long that you pay full RRP. If you're not prepared to do that they'll push you out the door because they know someone else will soon come in so keen to buy and be prepared to wait months for delivery and pay full list price. Given the tsunami WRXs may currently be in that position.

In fact in some cases with rare cars (typically exotics) people will pay well over RRP just to get their hands on one.

Do your homework at other dealers and then go back to your local with an offer, but be prepared to walk.

I bought a car a few weeks ago and every brand I looked at were keen to deal. Ended up getting 12k off.

That's not really what I want to hear Marco... Thanks though. :)

That's what we plan on doing today. Hopefully we can get another $1k or $2k off.

the key is to make an offer. not to say the words " whats your best price " yes supply has been an issue. however, if your in the ball park they can sell around, tell them get me that price and i will hand over my cc number for a deposit right now. let me know what the best price you have got so far is and i can make a few calls to some mates if you like.

Cheers, Justin.
