Hi Peoples, just a question and would like some realistic answers, my 09 clubby has bent piston rods so am rebuilding engine, nothing fancy forged piston+ rods, blue print engine grout filled, same cam(standard as with heads) new clutch. Current rebuild time has been 3 months and still waiting. Whats a resonable time frame to do all of this by a very good engine builder, it will probably be close to 4 months by the time i have the car back on the road.??

Is it a rebuild under warranty? If so they may f@#k around, and id be maybe using a new camshaft, for some added performance while the engine is out.

No i am paying for this, forgot to add its twin turboed, have considered cam but am staying with standard as it will make more than enough power for me if i decide to up the boost.

There are a lot of factors to consider with this.
Time frame to get parts
Workload as there may have been several jobs in the works prior to your engine coming in most places work on first in first served basis
If you are unhappy with the time frame just have a quiet word to your builder see if there is anyway of speeding up the process without adding pressure.

What the hell is grout filling for?
For a stocky rebuild its probably a bit long.

My guess would be to add a bit more strength to the alloy block

Correct to strengthan the block for the added boost, am very happy with the builder just enquiring about the time frame. Also realize that there are many other factors.

I know why you do it.. but why is it needed here was the point I was getting at.
How powerful is this thing?

Hi Duke5700 will be aiming for 450+rwk and boost around 12lbs just added insurance and i am wanting to run e85 as a trial, i guess to some its not huge power but its no slouch either then if times change down the track i might try cam and heads.

Sounds like fun to me.
I'm sure the engine builders knows what he is doing inregards to the grouting.. I've only ever seen it used on dedicated drag cars or very very serious street cars. The engine builder must have high hopes

Sure sounds like overkill for a 450rwkw engine. As for the rebuild, 4 months wouldn't be out of the question I wouldn't think. Machining is a big part of it, how well they do the job and if they need to outsource for the machine work. Time can keep blowing out, my block took 3 months just to get machined and about a week to slap together.
