To replace the filter you have to drop the pan anyway. So best way but messy is remove the pan. I always leave a bolt in each corner and remove the rest then slowly loosen the corner bolts and whilst holding the pan remove two from one end and slowly lower it. In an attempt to reduce the mess.

is there some way to pump most of the oil out by removeing a line from some where ? to reduce the mess and empty the converter in the process ?

you could pull off a cooler line and run it for short periods of time but this comes out with pressure and easy to make a mess as well. Unfortunately not the cleanest of jobs.

Just get some of that clear tubing from bunnings and suck it out the dipstick hole with a spray bottle.
Let it gravity drain for a while then you can drop the pan with no mess ;)

That is a good idea but unfortunately won't drain the oil from the convertor. Whilst pulling a cooler line off won't completely drain it will drain a portion of it

i did mine recently. just pull the check plug on the bottom, most of the fluid will come out that way.
you'll be lucky to have 1 or 2 litres left sitting in the pan. Providing your trans hasnt been running for a while. undo the bolts. pull down on the filter and it will come off. put new one in. re-assembly pan. fill trans back up.
mine took about 10litres with a large ass cooler.

no. i took the fittings out of the radiator. then cut the rubber hose and put some double sided 3/8 barbed brass fittings in the hose. put new hose on & lengthened as required to the new cooler.

ok dropped the pan yesterday
oil was very RED and sweet smelling almost like the new stuff :)
the bottom of the pan was very clean no sludge or bits :)
the magnet in the bottom of the pan
( its about 1.1/2 " round and about 5mm thick situated down near the oil level check plug at the back of the pan)
had a coating of gray sludge over it
but not thick
so i was very happy with that
so new filter and oil and see if it goes for another 35000k
35,000 k on the box 19,000m with 400 + rwkw

Nice!! Similar to how mine was at around the same mileage, but I'm not packing anywhere near the power you are.
